I've been perusing on Snaps lately, attempting to find interesting people to follow, to curate. When I ran into a little account sharing her frustrations.
Before replying to @rozyntaaa I did make sure she wasn't one of those "evil spammers" people keep talking about, and sure enough- she's in the clear.
Why then is she getting downvoted? Well, she broke the rules of course. She used an image that didn't belong to her and forgot to put a source link to it. This heresy cannot be tolerated here it seems.
Jokes aside, I have to say, because this is the type of thing that worries me at times.
What are we doing?
I mean: Yes, we want to care for our blockchain. We want to create a culture that values effort, etc. Anyone whose been here for a while know this all too well. But we can't be so reactive. We can't assume "evil" intent when one misstep is made.
One of our very own is attempting to help - @macchiata reached out and provided an olive branch.
But as we know, in the face of our immune system, accounts like @macchiata or myself for that matter can't do much.
@acidyo show up on the thread too. He uncovered the initial sin with more details.
Here's the point
I'm not saying @rozyntaaa is a saint. I don't know the person, and it's obvious that what she did is frowned upon. What I'm saying is that we ought to be careful as to how we regulate unwanted behavior here.
Is it really One strike, you're out?
Would it be so difficult to provide a guiding voice to a new user who messed up?
Listen
I'm not assuming the people downvoting her are evil either. Anyone who downvotes does so because in their mind its the right thing to do. I know it comes from a good place.
My point is that very strict purity tests are only going to make this place completely barren- a desert without a single lily.
I will
For the sake of helping, as much as I can at least. I'm going to set @rozyntaaa as a beneficiary on this post too. I think she knows what to do now, and I want her to know its OK to f... up, as long as you recognize it and correct course.
None here are perfect anyways...
