In my time on Steem and then Hive I have managed to make a few enemies. These tend to be people I downvoted for what I considered what abuse of the platform. There is one who still downvotes me after a couple of years, but the damage is insignificant. A more recent addition to my nemesis list is @huaren.news.
You can see that he makes nothing from posts on Hive. He has no significant supporters here and is not self-voting. Also note his very negative reputation and lack of followers.
The picture on Steem is very different.
Not many more followers, but the difference is massive self-voting.
@goodreader and @staryao are also accounts owned by him. There is another @hnt that has not posted so recently. He also buys big votes from tipu and other bots. It seems this is quite acceptable on Steem with a top witness also voting for him. That does not mean he gets many comments. It is all about the money.
He is exploiting delegation leasing services so he has nearly 400k SP delegated to him and 80K HP on Hive. The latter is decreasing has he has been blacklisted.
He created the Steemflag account to complain about being downvoted and to write about the people he has 'flaged' (sic). I was one of the first. Those posts also benefit from paid votes and his own stake. With just 19 followers I doubt the greater Steem community cares.
Buying votes and self-voting seems to be perfectly acceptable on Steem now as nobody is doing anything about it, not even the Steemit-controlled accounts. @huaren.news was taking in thousands of Steem each week from his accounts. He knows he cannot get away with that on Hive.
What he can do is to downvote people with his delegated HP and I seem to be one of the chosen few. All my recent posts are getting nearly fifty downvotes.
@huaren.news seems to control those accounts, but most have insignificant power. Okay, so I took away some of his Steem rewards. I had a downvote trail following me to increase the effect. He has taken far more from my posts. He says he only does it in retaliation, but it would be better to reduce the need for people to hit him in the first place.
Am I upset about all this? I am more concerned by the harm he does to Steem and could do to Hive than about what I might lose. He cannot affect my reputation and it actually tends to go up when he downvotes me as others support me by canceling out his downvotes. Maybe I should thank him for that and be flattered by all the attention. @curangel seems to be the only other account he hits.
He did respond a few times showing off that he was supporting others on Hive, but that just seems like a cynical effort to profit from curation. That will be less effective for him as the delegations dry up. If you lease any HP you may want to check who gets it and if they are doing good or not. Profit is nice, but we really need to be making Hive better to attract and retain new users. I think @huaren.news is one we can afford to lose.
I really hope he sees this. Maybe I will get another reply in Chinese. The quality of discourse is exceptional.
As I said then, I defended Steem more than many and took a lot of grief for doing so. Now it is not worthy of my attention. He only cares about Steem as far as what he can make from it, much like many of the other trending accounts there.
I do care about Hive.
