My friends,
In less than a month I’ll be celebrating my 8th anniversary on Hive, for which I’ll write my traditional anniversary post as well.
In that time I’ve written hundreds of thousands of lines of code, watched projects succeed (and a few crash), and gained a ton of experience along the way. Through it all, Hive has been a const in my life. (pun intended)
Looking 8 years ahead...
... the future looks exciting but also a little doomy.
- Will we have an AI super‑intelligence?
- Will my coding experience become redundant thanks to AI coding agents?
- How will life look like and how can I prepare for what’s to come?
Is it building a video‑game? Using my coding experience while I still have an edge over AI? Getting into AI development? Learning new skills? Spending more time outside the digital realm? Becoming a plumber? Maybe multiple or all of the above?
One thing I do know: whatever I focus on should matter. And if I pour nights and weekends into a project, I want it to be somewhere it can actually make a real difference and be something people actually want.
A question for you
While working on the game-design & demo for the new gameplay, which I'll share more about here soon, I’ve been thinking about bringing the full game back onto Hive - either natively and/or via VSC. It would be crosschain compatible, leveraging my gained knowledge in those areas but use Hive as the primary layer.
I can’t make that decision alone though. While most of the code required is already/still there, the community interest - your interest - matters most. So, here's my question to you:
Would you support and help shape it - right here on Hive?
A solid infrastructure is critical, and blocktrades & team (plus many others) have been building it diligently for years. But a chain also needs apps and games that people love using every day - experiences that drive engagement and attract new people. And my believe is that videogames will continue to be important, even with AI.
The past years have been... draining, and I’ve shared some of it here. Your trust and support in me as a witness kept the lights on more times than you know. I’m immensely grateful and would love to return the favour by bringing something fun and unique to Hive.
I'm looking forward to your thoughts in the comments.
Thanks for reading.
