A Hive user recently brought it to my attention that HBIT mining might be considered spam by the user being replied to. That person is not involved in the mining or receipt of HBIT, yet he or she still receives a notification message...possible spam. This is a fair concern and is certainly not a perception that we want.
This could be avoided altogether by shutting off notifications, however, my guess is most HBIT miners appreciate a confirmation message.
So, a change...
When you mine HBIT using the !hivebits
command, instead of 1.00 HBIT going to you...
- 0.9 HBIT will go to you
- 0.1 HBIT will go to the person you are replying to

Options
In this way, I see three HBIT mining options:
- Mine with a reply to yourself (you will get 100% of the HBIT)
- Mine with a reply to another user (you get 90%, the person you're replying to gets 10%)
- Mine using the official HBIT mining account: @hivebits.mine (you get 90%, @hivebits.mine gets 10%)

Notes on the options
Option 1
From the start, I've suggested that anyone who wished to mine HBIT regularly should set up their own "my HBIT mine" post/page. Then, just respond to that page with !hivebits
. In this manner, you will get 100% of the mined HBIT and no one else will receive a notification. Don't feel that you're being selfish if you go with the 100% option. That is fine by me! This is exactly the goal of HBIT: to reward users for their own efforts through "proof-of-comment" mining.
Option 2
By creating a 90%/10% split, HBIT becomes something of a mining/tipping token. It now involves the user being replied to by giving them a small bit of one hivebit. This might be considered their tip or their reward for allowing you to use their comment to mine...kind of their royalty earned for what they've written. Still, I would recommend doing this cautiously or sparingly or with someone you know well or with whom you've communicated.
Option 3
I created the @hivebits.mine account with one purpose...it's a place to mine HBIT without concern for notifications bothering anyone. If you need a place to mine HBIT and don't wish to use your own post, then this is the place.
Since you are replying to another user in this option, the hivebits.mine account will receive 0.1 HBIT each time you mine (you will get 0.9). I (@crrdlx) will consider the 0.1 to be my own. Thanks! 😀 I run @hivebits and @LUVshares and there actually are some costs involved...100 BEE to set up each token (presently, that's $55 USD each), $5 USD per month server fee, and in the fact that almost all of my HP is delegated to either LUV or HBIT. I've never sold a single LUV token, but likely will trade HBIT at some point. I'm not complaining, I enjoy this, but I do feel it's worth being open and transparent about this.
Wildcards and miscellanea
In the first post of hivebits, I stated there are "no guarantees." This is still a bit experimental and very early. The 90%/10% change may get reverted back to a simple 100%.
Resource Credits (RCs) are always a wildcard. The 90/10 split may eat up RCs faster than before. So, we may revert.
Also, to conserve RCs, the bot's comments may be turned off altogether. If this happens, you can still mine HBIT, there just won't be any comments or notifications. Remember, you can still always monitor your HBIT status in your H-E wallet, using an H-E explorer (option A or B), or by viewing the hbit-log on Discord (best).
Wen 90/10?
I feel there is no need to delay on this change. Still, since HBIT operates on a daily schedule, I think a 24 hour grace period is appropriate for anyone wishing to set up their own HBIT mining post.
The 90%/10% change will start tomorrow, 1/17/2022.
