Blog on HIVE and earn cryptocurrency...

This has, for much too long been the advertising campaign since the roll-out of the first blockchain-based blogging platform, STEEM. While not an incorrect description, it was an overstatement and an exaggeration.
Any long time blogger or streamer will tell you, the number one rule of success is engaging with the consumers of your content! The second rule is creating content that will keep those folks in your fan-base! The HIVE Network is no different.
WHY COMMENT ON POSTS/VIDEOS?
When I first started on STEEM close to three years ago, there was a term—chasing whales. What this entailed was voting and commenting on posts by folks with very large stakes in the hopes of getting noticed and that the whale in turn would reward your comment or blog posts. At that time authors of posts received the lion's share of the rewards.
The protocol is different now on HIVE where the weekly rewards are split 50/50 between the curators and the author. Of course; communities decide their own distribution methods for their HIVE tokens (e.g., $SPORTS, $LEO, $BRO, $WEED $CTP). Some like it, others don't. That is a topic I will not go into here as it has already been discussed on numerous other posts.
My personal experience has been that commenting on people's content has helped people get to know me. It has gained me followers whether they be fans or detractors. Not only that, but when someone comments on my posts, as long as it is a good and thoughtful one, I give them a small upvote and check out that persons blog —because I am nosy that way!
COMMENTS HELP WITH SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (SEO)
Doing GOOGLE® searches I find, at times, links to comments on posts. Evidently there were key words or phrases relevant to my query in a comment. This has happened a number of times when searching a HIVE related question. I wish I had saved them to give examples, but I did not. You will just have to take my word on it.
CURATION TRAILS AND AUTO VOTES IS EASIER
I have never been a big fan of auto votes, curation trails or bot-generated comments (I have used them in the past). Some use them in a positive way, but mostly they are counter-productive I believe. The HIVE Network's best selling point is its sense of community. I will not turn away auto-votes though. Keep sending them!
Automation is a great tool, yet? It is not personal and, at least for me, not engaging. Let me give you an example...
When I have a problem with something be it my phone service, internet, electricity, etc.; I want to talk to a human being. What do I get? An automated answering system that has me pressing 1, 2, 3, or 4. I get so mad I end up hanging up.
It may be a bit of a stretch comparing this to commenting on HIVE Network, but when I receive an auto-vote with no comment I feel cheated. I ask myself the questions...

📝 Why did they not like my post and down-vote it?
I always get excited when I see a comment on one of my posts! I almost always give a small vote to the comment. That is just my way.
BECOME HIVE NETWORK FAMOUS!
As I stated earlier, I have been around for a season or two in this blockchain blogging world. It is comprised of people. Most folks know the difference between the sincere and the disingenuous. Comments are no different than posts.
Here are my pointers for a good comment anywhere, be it on HIVE™, Twitter®, YouTube®, Twitch®, facebook®, or any other website for that matter...
👀 Read the article or watch the video completely
👀 Comment on why you did or did not like the content
👀 Provide constructive criticism if needed
👀 Be sincere. Last in my list, but the most important.
I want to end this post by sharing the best advice there is concerning engagement on HIVE I just read in a comment by @fermionico:
Fermionico, if you want to grow up here, write to others what you would like them to write to you in the comments block. —@untaljames
This is the golden rule of engagement.
