I will write about my Hive Fest impressions, topics and people over the next few days, but today since HF is still ongoing I don't want to get over those topics until the event finishes.
I had a selfie of my avatar taken on the lobby of Hive Fest, but I didn't save it so now I'm stuck with a crappy image of myself from the AltSpaceVR lobby. But it still does the trick, which is to show you how my Hive Fest Avatar looks.
Oh, before I forget, if you see me roaming around the lobby like yesterday and say hello and I just don't reply, it is because my audio entry got wet a few days ago and my headphones aren't working, it's not that I didn't want to say hello @livinguktaiwan, @crimsonclad, @shadowspub.

Self perception is funny, and I'm not gonna get into the psychology and pychoanalysis behind it - first, even though I have some studies on the topics I am not an expert, so I'm not gonna pretend I can analyze the reasons behind someone setting his skin color as blue instead of brown; second, this post would turn very boring - and instead, I just want to mention what is curious, funny and some times revealing from avatar interaction in the altspace.
It's very funny, I recognized @gtg, @crimsonsclad, @therealwolf, @roelandp, @martibis and a few others the moment I saw them because they were very on point with their self representation but I have to admit, some of their features are pretty unique and it is easy to represent on VR (redhair, flashy blonde with crazy style, moustache and glasses etc).
but it took me a while to recognize some others like @tarazkp, @blocktrades, @livinguktaiwan, @m31, @detlev, @adetorrent, @yidneth, and others, but maybe that is just because we are dealing with generic avatars with very few available modifications when it comes to face and head - imagine if we could upload a photo and the VR software turns that into an avatar, that would kick ass, in fact I believe my avatar looks very generic and people would have a hard time recognizing me, especially because I can't seem to find my memo key and I can't claim my badge :(
And then it comes to those who are anon such as @ausbitbank and the @markymark, who I just had to assume their avatar looks somewhat similar to their real selves, but then again they could look very different to their depiction. I was hoping to see some avatars from people like @acidyo or @pfunk just to see how they self perceive or how they want people to perceive them in the VR world.
In the end, self perception can be tricky, and our subconscious can get in the way. Take me for example, I couldn't find a tanned skin color and I didn't want to go full brown, so I had to pick a slightly lighter color for my face, even though I don't look like that, but even that is telling when it comes to my selfperception and why I decided to go lighter rather than browner.
It is also telling when you know a person irl, and then see how they perceive themselves or how they want to be perceived in VR, but not in a judgning way, just in a curious and funny kind of pov.
Anyway, the lobby is full now so I have to wrap up this post, I was hoping it would be longer but the dogs wanted to have breakfast and I had to leave the desk, and now I don't have time to keep writing.
See you in VR!
Update, I was able to take a selfie!
