This last week, most nights have been in the 40’s and most mornings have been foggy and cold. Terrible hay season this year. Friday was no exception.
I wrote yesterday that on Friday that as it was to rain, I’d be changing out winter clothes with my helper. I’ve not yet transitioned from my general helper’s schedule to my new helper’s schedule, and the new helper can’t do Fridays.
My helper friend arrived at 8AM and when my new helper hadn’t arrived by 8:15 I realized she wasn’t coming. My helper friend had gotten started on the butter making. I had been working on the bills/budget earlier so I went back to that.
We had only gotten 1 gallon of cream, though I’d ordered 2, and he finished it by 9:30. So I quickly got ready and we went out to the Big garden to finish laying it out and to get amendment down and maybe get some of it broadforked.
We made the changes to rows and beds and I found the mistake that made everything crooked. I was a foot off on the right side of the garden. So I corrected that while he broadforked the good rows. Then I spread amendment while he finished the corrected rows and did the areas for squashes and artichokes. There were still some areas we couldn’t do, where the hay bales are, and the garlic.
But most of it is now ready to plant. I just keeping chipping away at it and soon it will be done.
I finished about 11:30 and shortly after that the storm clouds rolled in. As usual, they mostly went around us. We did get one deluge that I hope soaked the mulch in the Big garden well. The thunderstorms went north and south of us. We get the noise, but very little lightning is seen.
I was crashed on the couch most of the afternoon.
On Saturday it’s supposed to be cool and partly sunny so it looks like I will be planting in the morning. Sunday is more of the same, so maybe I will get a good part of the garden done.
