I enjoy being in Hive. If I can only explain how it works to my friends in the most simplest way, I want to bring them all to the community, especially those who I know are good content creators. Cryptocurrencies and blockchain have their own sets of complicated concepts and processes and to an ordinary person, it may take a much longer time for him/her to understand the building foundations how they work. I myself am still learning the ropes and whatever idea or knowledge I gained, I am glad to share it to the community. The learning curve in Hive won’t stop me from bringing my friends into the blockchain and give them the opportunity to monetize their content. In the past, I wrote about how to on-board people into Hive using HIVEONBOARD, which is basically the sign-up process so a user can get his/her own login credentials.
Moving forward, with the so-many concepts and technical jargon to learn, I try to explain to my friends what Hive is, by showing them what I do, on a gradual basis. In such way, they are building their foundation of knowledge about the blockchain without overwhelming them with too much information.
I like doing series of posting, though I must admit, I failed in many of them. My gardening grow logs I started last year have not been updated. I have begun posting about my wormfarm series which I recently updated. Before Hive, I have my 2022 Challenge where I set targets for my token holdings and staked tokens that I need to achieve on the 1st of January 2022. This time, I will do my very best to sustain updating this type of post, especially that this post (the one you’re reading) is again similar to that.
Going back to on-boarding, as I mentioned, I educate people on Hive by showing them what I do in the blockchain, but that usually happens in a chat or an informal conversation or just spur of the moment. I want others to learn from what I do on a regular basis, without me having to re-tell every story as I on-board people on different times and they also learn in difference paces. With that reason, I am starting my #hivejourney series of posts. What is it? Every two weeks, I will update my blog on the things that I did on my Hive account, every significant activities that I participated in had a major impact in my Hive account, whether it’s about my author and curation rewards, the contests I joined in, interesting posts that I curated, Hive developments that I look forward to, tricks that I want to share, DApps that I use, and many more.
So let’s get started…
Just a quick rundown, I had this account since December 2019, when it was still in Steem. I blog regularly and shared some post about my gardening hobby and some other articles related to investing. Then the blockchain split happened and COVID-19 virus spread across the world.
Fast forward, I am sharing updates in various areas of this account and the activities I did across the blockchain.
Hive Blog
Except for the couple of post I wrote for worm farming, I settled for shorter posts for now, mainly just on my @actifit posts. I have a lot of ideas to write – gardening, worm farming, music, motivational write-ups, travels in and out of New Zealand to name some – but I have no time to write, or should I say, I have plenty of other things to do, and writing is not one of them.
I also posted a number of @dbuzz posts and it’s good to see it’s gaining support from many Hive users. To @nathansenn, @chrisrice and the rest of the team, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS! I can't wait for their update allowing image embeds on the @dbuzz posts.
Contest
I am planning to hold a contest, aimed primarily at @hiveph members. I am still finalizing the theme of the contest. Right now, I am thinking a music-related one. Stay tuned for this!
Splinterlands
After several months, I resumed playing Splinterlands. To those who are not aware, it is an online trading card game where users can buy and use cards with different powers and abilities. They can challenge other players either in a practice game, or a ranked game, or even in a tournament. Players can also complete daily quests (a starter pack worth $10 is required) where you get rewards every time you complete a quest. Rewards can range from DEC tokens (the game’s own crypto), cards, potions, and orbs. Twenty five years ago, I was an avid player of Magic: The Gathering and this game is quite similar. Yes, it’s a bit nostalgic for me, lol.
I am including Splinterlands in my #hivejourney update as it is part of my daily routine. While I mentioned I do not have enough time to write posts for my Hive blog, playing Splinterlands is my “have a Kit-kat break” moment.
More than a week ago, after the season ended (yes there are ranked seasons in Splinterlands, and you get rewarded when it ends, depending on your ranking), I finished at Silver II ranking. The image below shows my rewards, I can either use the cards for playing or sell them for DEC tokens. DEC tokens can be traded back to HIVE tokens using Hive-Engine.
Hive Hodlings
I do not mind discussing in my blog what I have in my Hive wallet. It is publicly viewable anyway and I like to share how the contents of my wallet move (either upward or downward). In my 2022 Challenge, I aimed at having 20,000 Steem Power at the start of 2022. But it was back in Steem then, and with Hive having a higher value than Steem, it will require me more resources to achieve that same goal. Further, the COVID-19 pandemic really slowed me down, even on activities that will provide me extra financial resource to boost my Hive Power.
As of this writing, I have 1,577.568 Hive Power, though I have roughly 250 usable HP as I have delegated 1,325.588 HP to a number of accounts. I am providing a table below which I will constantly update so you know how my Hive resources move through time.
Resource | June 2020 |
---|---|
Hive | 5.749 |
Hive Power | 1,577.568 |
With my Hive-Engine tokens, I have done nothing with them since they were migrated from Steem Engine. When I am ready to write on a regular basis, I will go back in boosting my holdings in Neoxian, PALnet, CreativeCoin, and Lifestyle.
Well, the past weeks have been busy, both inside and outside the blockchain. I’ve been swamped with work as we are nearing the end of the financial year and I need to get more assets into our database and update our maps accordingly. Now, with Hive, as I said in the first paragraph, I wrote on how to on-board people into Hive using HIVEONBOARD, a service created by @roomservice, which is very straightforward.
I challenge my friends, as well as the readers of this post, to do the same series of #hivejourney post, update it on a regular basis (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly), and share various activities (posting, curating, investing, and/or trading) they do across the blockchain. Please use the tag #hivejourney so we can easily monitor similar posts. This post will be the first post to use the #hivejourney tag. We can ride the journey together and learn from each other’s experiences.
