Whenever I sing the lines of Hezekiah Walker’s I Need You to Survive, so many thoughts run through my mind. I don’t know if it’s just me, but that song gets me thinking.
Do I truly love the people I claim to love?
Do I see them as part of God’s body, or am I trying to claim ownership as if I were the entire body?
Do I stand with them when they need me most?
Do I listen to understand their opinions, or do I always insist on having the final say?
Do I genuinely pray for them, or are my thoughts towards them secretly unkind?
They may not be the oxygen you need to survive, but you need people to do life.
So I ask you: whenever you sing that song, are you just singing to fulfil all righteousness?
Does the song truly make sense to you?
If you’ve never reflected on it this way, well, you’re welcome.
Now pause. Reflect. And take action.
Let Love Lead.
