In the past, love was more than enough because people understood clearly what it meant to be married. Marriage was seen as a lifetime commitment, not just an event or a temporary phase. Today, however, many people don't really understand what marriage is all about, most persons see marriage as just something they should do simply because the society expects it, while others just wants to fulfill their curiosity or just for the sake of being married.
Sometime last year, a friend of mine wanted to get married, she was the same age as my younger sister and I felt it was too early to rush into marriage which prompted me to ask her if she was really sure she wants to get into marriage at such a young age and her response surprised me;
"It's not a do-or-die affair. If I don't adapt to the place I will divorce him"
This is just the tip of an iceberg to tell you the mindset most persons have when it comes to marriage in recent times, maybe, the civilization, modernization or even social media's influence are to be blamed or not.
Personally, I never heard of the word prenup before until Paris Saint Germain (a football club in France ligue 1) left back pulled up the stunt few years ago and everyone was hailing him because all his asset was registered under his mother so there was no asset for them to share, so considering the high rate of divorce recently, I think it's really not something bad at all to do.
Prenuptial agreement commonly known as prenups are legal documents signed before marriage outlining how assets and debts will be handled should there be a case of divorce anytime in the marriage.
This wasn't common at all with everyone as it was kind of restricted to the celebrities and wealthy individuals trying to safeguard their wealth which they singlehandedly built before the marriage but In recent times, everyone is tilting towards it because even the little you have could be ripped off if you didn't make a clear financial stance before entering marriage.
Personally, I don't think it should affect the love in any way even though many persons will argue that it's contradictory to say you love someone and trust the person and still bring up prenups which in a way is a backup plan should you guys separate invariably saying you don't trust the partner big enough for you guys to stay forever, but personally, I feel it's just a precautionary measure which shouldn't in anyway become a problem.
Would I sign a prenup?
I won't even mince words with you or try playing diplomatically by telling you, "it depends on this or that", the answer is Yes on my end, a big one at that. And like I said, it's not as a sign of doubt, distrust or no love, it's just a precautionary measure.
While no one enters marriage with the mindset of leaving, you can't argue the fact that divorce is on the increase, hence, I don't think prenups is really something bad.
