Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) was first discovered in the Netherlands in 2001. The virus is transmitted through direct contact among individuals and can also be contracted by touching contaminated surfaces.
HMPV is associated with mild upper respiratory tract infections. In most individuals, the symptoms are similar to those of influenza, typically including cold-like symptoms, cough, and fever.
