Today was our first official comfrey harvest from a root cutting that was planted last August. We've pulled damaged or yellow leaves before, but this time I harvested an entire plant.
Our biggest out of 46 comfrey plants so far, though not the biggest individual leaves.
I let it flower before harvesting to get the most pollinator attraction out of it. Then today I cut it off an inch or two from the ground. I've seen videos of people doing it this way, and they all said their plants came back, though I've gotta admit I'm a tad nervous over destroying a beneficial plant in my little ecosystem.
Farmer Sam for scale. That's a lot of biomass...
The shaded area shows this herb's effectiveness as a ground cover too.
After trimming out the stems and a lot of leaves for mulch, the harvest came out to 14.6 ounces, or just over 400 grams. I washed the leaves of soil and other debris, and filled up the ten tray dehydrator with comfrey leaves.
... Now for the announcement you all came here for...
I'm setting up shop at Homesteaders Co-op!
Yup. I finally got my crap together and applied like a month ago. I haven't set up my shop yet, but it's on the list of things to do. Sometime. @kay-leclerc needs a guinea pig for vendor setup, so I'll be volunteering to fill that role. I wanted to announce it publicly now so that it'll help me get motivated to set it up. So far I've got three products that I'll be offering, and I'll be focusing on wild crafted herbs and tinctures.
I chose to focus on natural medicines because it's something I wanted to see more of on the Co-op. I decided to make it so. Herbs and natural medicine products are something I've developed a passion for lately, and I figured I'd try and turn it into a way to invest in steem too. Well see how it goes! That's kinda up to y'all cause if y'all don't buy it, I've got me a good little stock of a few herbs now :)
Pretty cool, huh? I'll probably be finishing that process next weekend with the extra days I took off. Looking forward to learning the process.
All action for the good of all.
Nate.

Some of these are exchange addresses so that I'll get notifications of deposits. From there, the funds will either be moved to wallets that I control, exchanged for steem to boost my influence here, or to USD to fund a project.
