Joel Salatin from Polyface Farms released a statement on their Facebook page today and I thought it very worthy of sharing far and wide. The rest of this post in italics below Joel's picture is the full statement from their Facebook page.

The enemy used to be Monsanto--easy bad guys. Our new enemy is industrial organics, available at your local Wal-Mart and other supermarkets. As if labels are not confusing enough, now we have lots of evidence suggesting that fake organics are entering the U.S., most of which are destined for your friendly organic livestock operation down the road. And now that Amazon has purchased Whole Foods, you can be sure things will continue to degenerate.
When people routinely ask me why Polyface does not participate in the government organic certification program, this is why. From day one of the program, I asked people: "Why would you think the entity that has discredited organics forever, that told us to abandon butter and lard and eat hydrogenated vegetable oil, that told us to feed dead cows to cows, that put Twinkies and Cocoa Puffs on the foundation of the 1979 Food Pyramid--why in the world would you trust these people to protect organic?"
Dear folks, anyone who thinks buying organic at the supermarket is anywhere near equivalent to buying pastured local GMO-free from your local farmer--especially Polyface--is simply not thinking this through. Nobody hates this new playing field more than I do. Our family has been a fan of the word "organic" ever since J.I. Rodale coined it in the late 1940s and my grandfather became a charter subscriber to Organic Gardening and Farming Magazine in 1949.
These fake organic feed grains being imported are going where? To chickens, beef, hogs, and turkeys from large organic certified outfits. It's a crazy labyrinth of murkiness. It's time to fire these scofflaws.
Times change, and once the government owned the word, it's become adulterated, obfuscated, and a sham. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for crying out loud, someone has to proclaim loud and clear that the government, industrial organic program is not honest, ecological, or fair.
Please read the report below from my friends at Cornucopia to get more detail. I will fight for honest speech and honest practice. Remember, in a day of opaqueness, Polyface invites anyone from anywhere on the planet to visit anytime and go anywhere on the farm unannounced. That's our commitment to transparency; ask ANY industrial organic supplier at the supermarket if that's their policy. It won't be. Hang in there; the water's murky these days. Polyface intends to offer clear water; come on in; it's warm.
