On Saturday morning I got the photos edited, post written and up and around 7AM I went up to the attic to try to get something done before it got too hot. I got the missed items on the stairs to go down, then organized all the remaining bags.
Next I moved all the heavier furniture into the cleared space.
My husband had told me to not put much heavy stuff over the living room, so I just kept all the chairs, small items and empty boxes in that area.
I had intended to sort out the boxes on the other side, but it had started to get pretty hot up there so I quit.
I headed out to the gardens to harvest. My helper friend had said there was a good deal on Friday. It was too hot by then to go out so I planned to do it first thing on Saturday morning.
I went to the Big garden first and found the first artichokes. Then I harvested all the larger broccoli shoots.
There were a couple tomatoes ripening up but the blight had gotten bad on the leaves so I cut them off. Hopefully the plants will survive long enough to let the fruit ripen.
Once that was done and I cleaned up the mess, I went over to the Small garden to harvest. There were a lot of cukes and some of the squashes had gotten really big.
The Howden pumpkin is ripening nicely.
And the melon I thought was a watermelon is really a cantaloupe.
The sun had come out and it was heating up. The humidity was really oppressive.
Once I got back inside I sat down to cool off for a while. Then I went out and processed the vegetables. I’d decided to leave the broccoli in the cool water until my brother got home. I would see if he wanted to make broccoli slaw again.
After resting a while I set to work on the stuff that had been missed in the attic, sorting what I wanted to save and sorting what needed to be shredded.
Then I cleaned up some more, put things away. There was shredding to do, But it was a lot and I just wasn’t up to it.
So after lunch I mostly just watched movies. After supper I blanched and froze what broccoli my brother didn’t want for supper on Sunday night.
Every year the poor old MacIntosh apple tree could sure use some attention, and it rarely gets it. It drops lots of leaves and apples all through the season.
On Sunday I plan to go back into the attic to sort through the boxes to make sure there’s none that were supposed to be saved. I’ll do that very early before it gets hot.
Then I have the shredding to do and once that’s done, I have to clean the office. It’s really dirty from the boxes and bags.
In the afternoon I have another concert to attend.
