There are three chickens crammed into this one nest box.
The chickens have adjusted to their new coop really well. They must like it because they never even offer to go to the old one. The only problems we have had is Loudmouth cannot fly and can't hop up high enough to get on the roost. Even if she did, she has a bum leg which prevents her from gripping. So we found her sleeping on the floor. We turned a bucket on its side and put a nice layer of pine shavings in it hoping she would use it. Well, it turns out she's too fat. She can't get into the bucket and turn around so she just sleeps on the floor in a pile of shavings. We really should cull her but she was one of our very first chickens and she's already been through so much. She will live her life out until its natural end.
I found Dr. Quinn and Pigpen crowding Lady into the back of a nest box. I moved the two offending hens and Lady immediately jumped down. I wonder what was going on. Some kind of chicken ritual we don't know about? Or were they bullying her? Who knows?
Someone has been laying eggs with only partially formed shells. I have found a few that had been broken but this was my first half formed one.
