I am crazy about soap making and creating other fun products for the bath. It has been my passion for what seems like forever, but, I only began to really get serious about it a few years ago. It was after my husband and I decided that running a full-time plant nursery was way too much to handle at our ages, and that is when I decided to really get serious about a part-time hobby.
The Soap Room
I have so much packed into this small room that you might be surprised as seen in the photos below. I have to be super organized in order to keep things neat and sanitary at the same time. It takes a lot of ingredients to make a luxurious bar of soap and many different utensils as well.
The Drying Racks
Every bar of soap that I make takes an average of 4 - 6 weeks to cure on the racks. This allows the evaporation of any extra water weight and helps to ensure a harder bar of soap. I do make a couple that actually takes about 8 months to cure.
Spring & Summer Soap-Line
In February I decided to do a layered soap line with graduating colors for something different and fun for the upcoming seasons. Here are a few photos of the bars I created, which was very fun to do. I started with the yellow bar and scented it with Limoncello, then Blood Orange & Pink Grapefruit for the peach. Victorian Rose for the pink bar, Cilantro-lime for the green, Island Hibiscus for the blue, and finally Lavender & Chamomile for the purple. Matching a fragrance to a bar of soap can sometimes be a challenge because each bar has a name or at least one of the ingredients in the title.
Labeling Bars of Soap
After creating my labels for each bar with its specific ingredients I print them out on card stock, cut them to size, and then spend an entire day or two just labeling each one. The next step is to shrink-wrap each one which usually takes me another two days to do this many bars. I prefer to shrink-wrap my soap to keep them free of dust and it also helps hold the fragrances longer.
Shrink-wrapped Soap
I hope you have enjoyed learning a little bit more about what I like to do besides playing in all my gardens and chatting with everyone on different platforms. May you be inspired to make a post about what you like to do in your spare time.
