Over the summer I decided I needed to read Neal Stephenson fiction. I read "Snow Crash", and liked it. Certain parts of it I thought were a little silly, yet fun, but I was amazed at how far ahead he was with regard to the metaverse and, literally, is credited with coining the term in that book. Being fascinated by bitcoin, I started reading Cryptonomicon and so far am liking it even more.
The history or mix of history and fiction is terrific. A couple of years ago I'd heard of some "sci-fi author" possibly being Satoshi. As a non sci-fi reader, I didn't think much of it. But, I'm certain he was the one that was being referred to. I don't think he is Satoshi, but it's fun to pretend. For now, I'll just keep reading and enjoying, and learning. I've found that I learn a bunch of history by reading fiction where the main characters and storyline are mixed and merged into a true history. Sometimes it's hard to tell what's real and what's not, kind of schizophrenically, but that's okay too.
Anyway, that's not even why I started writing this! I wrote this because I recently came across this article by Arkinox. He's building out "Cyberspace" or the metaverse using bitcoin's proof-of-work (cryptography, math, physics) and nostr. I've got to dig in deeper, but my gut tells me there's something to this.
