A very talented and fellow outdoorsmen once told me long bow marksmenship is much like throwing rocks. Its the feel of the shot more than a sight picture. It turns in to muscle memory. Speaking for myself, it is difficult to put the required amount of time and practice into 15 yards. I have a deep appriciation to cultures from our past that used this method as we do when going to Kroger putting items in our basket and headding off to the checkout.
The reward should be worth the work. The ability to bag your bounty and place it infront of your smilling children is rewarding. That moment of triumph has been in the past achieved by modern tools.
