I can't remember the details as it has been such a long time but it was a social studies assignment.
I'm not even sure how I picked her but I think it was because we shared a last name. Anyway we had to write about someone from the civil war. I'm not sure what I learned about her back then but she keeps coming back to me from time to time, reminding me that we just may have some sort of connection.
Yesterday @travelingcrafter texted me while I was out. It happened to pertain to our grandmother Cordelia Garland. The information was more detailed then most of the stuff I'm able to find when I can get to the library to do some genealogy research.
I texted her back asking where she got the information and she told me. Needless to say we spent most of the day messaging each other back and forth about things we had found. I decided to see if I could find this woman who continues to drift through my thoughts and what I found was this...
...Belle Boyd is the daughter of my 8th cousin five times removed and the wife of my 9th cousin twice removed. I had known she wrote her biographey. A book called Belle Boyd In Camp And Prison but the fact that she was a confederate spy had me intrigued.
I went to do a search so I could make sure I got the correct person and found out she had been married not once but three times. She had a daughter by her first husband before he died. She remarried again a few years later and had four more children before divorcing her second husband and getting married a third time.

Looking at the relationship charts it is interesting to see how she is related on both paternal and maternal lines. Her third husband is related to my maternal grandfather and her father is related to my paternal grandfather which would seem to make her more closely related.
I'm also, according to @travelincrafter, related to Elvis Presley, Jane Austin and Muhammad Alli. 😁😁
If you have a curiosity about your family tree I highly recommend signing up for familysearch.org. You have access to loads of information. I have yet to come across anything requiring a monthly subscription. If you do decide to try it out I would LOVE to see what you dig up.
And all I wanted to do was a quick buzz about this but for some reason the chain has not been very cooperative the last 24 hours. Oh well that's life.
