LEGITIMIZING ILLEGALITY
At the root of why an evil or any act not in tandem with an established system of legislation was committed are two major reasons. One of which is the perceived "benefits" are irresistible to the perpetrator of the act. For instance an arm robber, fraudster looks at the money or valuables he will get and can go what ever mile breaking any law that stands on his way to achieving his aim.
The second reason is, the person in question is forced into being part of an illegitimate transaction. To put it properly, the person is given little chance not to be part of an illegal dealing. So a lady with evidence of how her boss slept with another man's wife for instance can threaten to let it out if the boss doesn't play to her terms. Any other reason why a person gets into an illegal affair has an indirect link to the two reasons stated above. Let us look closely at the second reason.
Except for incidents of self defense which the law permits, when people say they had no choice when they are caught in a wrong act, I object. Truth is they had a chance to say no but they looked at the aftermath of exposing a fraud in their office and decided to keep mum. Some were threatened that their illicit activities in the past will be brought to public knowledge if they speak against an anomaly. The list is endless. When they looked at the disadvantages of them standing for the truth, they gave in. So when they say they had no choice, I just politely opine that they had little chance not to be part of the evil.
Evil thrives because we attempt to legitimize illegitimacy. When we accept excuses as valid reasons from incompetent folks and those that will compromise the sanctity of the law at the slightest pressure, we are indirectly rubber stamping illegality. If we don't address this mishap, very soon we will adjudge as valid the reasons Boko Haram terrorists will give for wrecking havoc in the North East.
I'm Jay Sun and I believe we have to stop accepting explanations that seeks to sponsor the acceptance of incompetence.
