Why is the Sky Blue?
The Sky is blue primarily due to the scattering of light coming from the Sun in the atmosphere. That's one of the reasons you don't see blue skies at night.
So when the sunlight comes and enters our atmosphere, it scatters away almost all of the Blue light wavelengths. Light has several wavelengths together, that's why you see the 7 colors in a Rainbow. When Light comes, the blue light collides with the atmospheric particles, and scatters here and there, filling the sky with blue color. So what happens with the Red light, you may think. The red light doesn't scatter that much and can reach directly into our eyes. That is why the sun appears yellowish red in the sky.

Now you may think, the sky looks red at sunrise and sunset.
Since the sun is at the horizon, the sunlight needs to cover a larger distance through our atmosphere. Due to that, the yellow-orange light also scatters, making the sky reddish orange. And thus the sun appears Red.
That's how the atmosphere gets its colors
