What is PMS
PMS test in Pakistan held by Provincial Public Service Commission (PPSC) of the four provinces of Pakistan to fill the empty seats on the posts of Provincial Management Service. PMS exams usually conducted for the provision of posts in various departments of regional government. However, PMS exams in Pakistan are not held on regular basis but PPSC announced exam schedule one month before when there are jobs.
In Punjab, PMS exams are held under the supervision of Punjab Public Service Commission. There are six compulsory subjects as well as all aspirants shall have to take these compulsory subjects of 600 marks and also have to choose three elective subjects of total 600 marks. Both male and female candidates are eligible to apply for PMS exam in their relevant field.
Difference between PMS and PCS:
PCS is an abbreviation of Provincial Civil Service. Prior to 2004, the PMS was known as Provincial Civil Service (PCS). It had two tiers namely PCS-Executive and Provincial Secretariat Service (PSS). Like PMS Officers, PCS Officers were appointed through competitive exam by the Public Service Commission. Those who were in higher merit opted PCS-Executive and rest joined Secretariat Service. In the year 2004, these two groups (PCS-Exe and PSS) were combined under the banner of Provincial Management Service (PMS) which includes all posts previously held by PCS and PSS Officers. Further, numbers of posts for PMS Officers have also been increased.
