Wooden remark Citroën 2CV
Scientists from the University of Kyoto believe that millennial experience of construction from a tree and has to teach something mankind. At the correct processing cellulose can become stronger than steel, and weigh at the same time 80% less. And then everything will become wooden around, but first of all – main components of vehicles.
Cars of the future, all types, will be easier and easier than predecessors. It is dictated by policy of decrease in emissions in the atmosphere – in the U.S. Department of Energy counted that weight reduction of the car for 10% gives fuel saving in 8% and more. For electric vehicles this indicator in general is regarded as of paramount importance and in their design there is no DVS, with great feeling and fire which is dangerous to wood.
Now the Japanese scientists experiment with cellulose nanofibres which are already used in a number of branches. And if to add to them in the correct proportions and an order polymers, then metamaterial which can compete with carbon fiber will turn out. While it is called bioplastic and received only experimentally – the automotive industry difficult accepts the idea that not it is possible to make not only a decorative weather-cloth, but also functional elements of cars of metal.
By calculations of Japanese, in the long term bioplastic will be able to maintain temperature over 300 degrees Celsius and to keep the set durability decades. And it is enormous minus as this metamaterial isn't subject to processing in principle, not that technology. It is unlikely people of the future will want to go all life by one model of the electric vehicle – taking into account inquiries of consumer society, utilization of bioplastic and contamination of the planet a new type of waste will become the real headache. But cars will be easy and cheap.
