Yesterday, I wrote a German article on my little visit at the local library. Since it is containing my plan and topics for my steemit-blog for the next few weeks, I rewrote the article in Englisch.
Oh, memories
It's been a while since I last visited the local library.
When I was a kid and teenager, I spent lots of time there. Books have always been fascinating for me. Surrounded by them, I feel comfy; I could spend hours delving among the books in libraries and book stores. If I ever get rich, having a large library of my own would mean a dream come true.
Recently, I have spent a lot of time thinking of how I would continue my blog here. What to write about? What topics are interesting for me, which thoughts do I want to share with the community and my readers?
Should I decide on certain, specific topics? Should I just write what's on my mind?
All this thinking finally led to me being totally clueless - till I suddenly remembered the library I spent so much time in 20 or 25 years ago.
Looking for some inspiration, I went there yesterday - and I instantly felt warm and fuzzy.
The local library at Feucht
is in a beautiful old half-timbered house which is called "Hutzlerhaus". The house was probably built in the 17th century (the exact year is unknown, unfortunately), the beautiful facade was made around the year 1700, and the house originally belonged to the castle that is close. Yes, we have a castle - in fact, we have three of them and two museums! Not too bad for a town with 13,000 residents!

The Hutzlerhaus, which has its name from one of the families that owned it in the past, has been under monumental protection for a long time. In 1986, it was completely restored and has been home of the "Zeidelmuseum" since then (the "Zeidler" were beekeepers in medieval times - I'll write about them soon). For the community library, an addition to the house was built in 1985. I personally think that it fits the medieval building quite well.
Here in my town, a few kilometers away from Nuremberg, we are quite proud of our troubled past and the medieval beekeepers, I'll dive into the history of this place shortly and shall write a few articles on it soon.
Delving and writing at the library
Though I had my laptop with me, it took me quite some time till I actually started it. First I had to wander around the shelves and see what books they have here. What I noticed was that several of the book shelves were pretty much empty. I don't know how to feel about that. "Oh, nice, so much space for new books!" or "What a pity, why aren't there more books to read?" - I'm undecided.

What I also noticed, was that some subject areas had me stay a bit longer than others. You might think "but that's obvious, everyone has his/her own fields of interest and knows about them". To me, it was not so clear until I had picked a few books and seated myself at the desk that had been prepared for me.
At first, I had drifted around with no certain plan or goal. This happened rather unconsciously, I only realized that later.

My experience there couldn't have been better. It happens only rarely that I can totally unwind and enjoy the moment. And the inspiration I was looking for came to me very easily. Only a few books, 4 or 5 hours, and I wrote several pages of notes into my Bullet Journal.
Additionally, I wrote several pages of notes in a memo pad, and I wrote yesterday's article. I haven't been this productive and full of ideas for quite some time.
What now?
My time at the library made it clear for me what I want to write about in the future.
I have always been fascinated by forensic psychiatry and forensic medicine. I've been into this for many years and have read tons of books about that. I admire Dr. Mark Benecke and Prof. Michael Tsokos, forensics and very special and famous guys, I've been following their work for quite a while and find it extremely interesting.
The white book on this picture immediately got my attention. It is about the high number of unreported and undetected cases of murder and other unnatural deaths. That number is shocking!
Since this book has been written about twenty years ago, I'll be doing some research on this topic in the next few days and weeks. I'm already very excited what I'll find out.
I'll continue my series on languages, which I wrote in German. I will write an English series on funny and interesting facts of languages, as well.
Last, but not least, as written above, I will dive into the history of the place where I live. I will write about the castles, the beekeepers called "Zeidler", the museums.
I found a whole bunch of topics I want to write. Visiting the library cured me from overthinking and showed me the way I want to go. I look forward to exciting hours of research and to writing a lot of interesting articles - I hope my readers will find them as interesting as I do. I also hope, you'll keep following and accompanying me on my adventure.
