God’s Word Today:
Philippians 4:8 NCV
Brothers and sisters, think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected.
Thoughts to Ponder:
Tell me, what are you thinking right now?
Are you thinking of a thing?
Is it a beautiful thing?
Is it something you have or wish to have?
Are you thinking of a place?
It’s probably a nice place?
A beautiful place?
How about an event?Is it an exciting event?
Is it a grand event with lots of enjoyment?
Are you thinking of a person?
A good person? What are his good traits?
What?! You’re not happy with this person?
What?! You’re angry?
This is what we often have in our thoughts, for everything else we usually have something positive in mind. But then, when we start thinking of a person, we often have poor thoughts about them.
We often dwell on the irritation we may have on people’s behavior and even their appearance. We mostly find something negative in the way they talk or walk.
Why do we have all these negativity on our fellow humans?
It’s because we’re always putting standards and even imposing our own standards on things and on others. At times, our standards are too high that most probably sets people up to fail.
Our text tells us to lift our thoughts above our standards and focus only on the “good and worthy of praise.” Let us remember only good and pure things come from God.
In order to appreciate people and life, let God lead you and then beautiful things will be more evident even in this sin stained world.
Dear Father,
Open our eyes to see others and our world around through the light of your goodness sprinkled everywhere for us to give more praise to Your name.
