The internet is a giant layer that is closely perched on top of our real world. Information is abundant....but we know that with vast choices we end up in a state of "paralysis by analysis".
At first you are checking the news, then your board exam result and then before you know it...cat videos.
Yes..we've been there.
You see the internet is an artificial algorithm trying to find you the most tailor-made results and the suggested searches (what youtube's algorithm is famous for and the focus of this post)
The more you watch these suggested searches the more you strengthen the possibility of the next suggested results to be on the dot, because you see...someone like you ( with the same tendencies) have been strengthening what is known as the long tail. The deeper parts of your own interest.
So when you watch a video..... babiing how about another one and then another one and so on..
But this is the important part ...you give in to your vices and watch something that is of no use to you ( kardashians or big boss or I don't know..something really stupid you know you shouldn't be watching) and if this is a pretty new account ( gmail etc)... your first few searches predicate what videos you will slowly end up crawling over.
The same goes with your facebook feed, if you like shitty content you get served a fresh plate shit every morning.
There is something called as a see first button, use it to tag the most websites, pages that gives you quality information.
So important to curate your likes on Social Media too.
So if you see your kids, uncles, elders getting into this rookie pitfall.. show them this post, give them a new account and tell them to turn over a new leaf !
The point of this electronic medium is to gather information that is not usually played and replayed on the idiot box.
I mean it doesn't make sense for you to catch up on the latest episode of some show that just whiles your time away
There are some beautiful, educative, productive channels on YT and other websites. Use it!
And lastly for the ones who are here and don't know what the fuck Steemit is...
