Hi fellow hiveans, hope you all are doing fine. For every job searching person preparing for an interview is hard. One thing we learn the job description qualities to be eligible for the interview and the other thing which is the most important thing above all, which is presenting yourself with your skills of communication. I think it's 2014, I was in Hyderabad in the search of a job as a Java Developer. I prepared as usual for the interview and I was confident that I can get the job. This is my first interview. Two days back to the date of interview I got a call from a consultancy that certain company is hiring for Junior java developer and they asked me if I'm interested, I said ok and then they scheduled an interview with the company. The day has come where I need to attend my first interview. I was so excited and full of adrenaline rush.
The thing about Hyderabad is I can't seem to locate that easily a certain place or area. I don't know why but I can't remember the areas in Hyderabad. So, after a search struggle of interview location, I came to the location one hout late. I'm already exhausted and I almost drowning in my own sweat due to walking around in the search of the interview location. Without withdrawing from the interview at that time I went straight for it. While entering into the company I throw my resume in the nearby dustbin and gone into the building. In the reception I told them I came for the interview for the position of a junior java developer position. They told me to wait for sometime as the interviewer was busy at that time. After ten minutes they called into a private room.
One person came after and he introduced himself as the senior developer and I introduce myself. Then the interview started. He began to ask some basic definitions and all of a sudden I panicked and I didn't utter a word in response to the questions of the interviewer. A sudden feeling of shy and can't explain myself situation has began inside me. The interviewer asked why are you not responding, are you feeling well, he can see through my shirt as the shirt is already wet due to the sweat. After gathering my best possible courage, I began answering my first question which is what is an abstract, when I told him the definition he face was lit with happyness as I didn't utter a word for about five minutes from the beginning after I introduced myself. After this he began asking other questions and I was unable to answer them as my communication skills hit rock bottom at that time.
After asking like six to seven questions he was so furious and yelled at me why did you waste my time coming to this interview without even preparing for the basic concepts in a programming language and after exactly like thirty seconds of yelling, he told me to get out of here. I opened the door and got out of there without laying a back eye at that company until I reached a near by auto stand. There I saw a tea shop and I sat there thinking what happened to me in there? Why did I panicked? Why couldn't I spoke when he told me to? After thinking about it like half an hour I didn't realise what I lack and fed up with the day, I took a bus to my room and gone. After reaching my room, I freshed up and took a nap even it's just evening at that time. I woke up next day morning all freshen up. With fresh mind I realised that I have poor communication skills and could not explain in details to others as I'm like an introvert. After that embarrassing moment of the interview I really tried a lot in communicating with others trying to explain what I learnt and listening what they have learnt. Even after trying so hard for the interviews, I really didn't excel at those and failed miserably as usual.
I still feel difficulty to talk with others about something that I need to explain them. That's why I always try to listen and that's all I can do now without much talking. Share with me whats your first interview experience!
