With 130,000 YouTube subscribers, Lark Davis (aka: The Crypto Lark) has become a household name in the crypto world.
And he first learned about crypto the same way many of you reading this article did: through Steemit.
But although Steemit was Lark's gateway drug into, as he puts it, "the wild, wild land of crypto," the platform was unable to retain him. Instead, he gave up on the blockchain-based content platform and grew his following on YouTube, where each of his daily videos average tens of thousands of views.
In this exclusive-to-Hive interview (bye bye Steemit), I've revived my "20 Questions" interview series, which I focused heavily on from 2016 to 2018.
So here it is, 20 questions with The Crypto Lark himself...

1 - How would you describe yourself in one sentence?
Lark - Mostly human.
2 - My understanding is that Steemit was your gateway drug into the crypto world. When did you become aware of Steemit, and what was your initial impression?
Lark - I became aware of steemit in 2017. Initially I liked the idea, but found it very hard to get any engagement.
3 - At what point did you realize you could become a full-time content producer?
Lark - After I started posting on YouTube; that is where the eyes are. I continued posting on Steemit for around a year or so, before giving it up.
4 - You’ve gained countless loyal followers and become a crypto authority on YouTube. What advice would you give to aspiring vloggers?
Lark - My advice is to be consistent, persevere, and to always focus on providing value.
5 - I’ve read that you studied political science in university. What was your original career trajectory?
Lark - Originally I wanted to work in in the foreign service as it fit my desire to live and work overseas. However, I slowly transitioned toward academia.
6 - What do you make of the current state of Steemit, and the Hive fork?
Lark - Really no opinion on this, I have not been following the drama.
7 - In an article you wrote for Coin Telegraph last December, you suggested gaming could be the key to mass crypto adoption. What specifically do you think needs to happen in the gaming space to achieve this?
Lark - Yes, gaming can be a big part of this. We already see that the Ethereum-based tokens launched on the Fortnite Reddit are very popular. What we need to make this successful is access. Phone integration, major social media like Reddit. It is happening now, stay tuned!
8 - What is the best cryptocurrency prediction/investment you’ve made to date?
Lark - Buying and holding Bitcoin.
9 - What is the worst cryptocurrency prediction/investment you’ve made to date?
Lark - About half of the ICOs I invested in.
10 - What cryptocurrency are you most bullish on for the rest of 2020?
Lark - Ethereum: so many things happening it is nuts.
11 - It’s clear you have a passion for educating others. Where does that stem from?
Lark - I always wanted to be a teacher, and did so for many years before YouTube.
12 - Are you picky when it comes to affiliate marketing partners that want to sponsor your content?
Lark - Yes, very much so. They must have a working product and be doing something that brings value.
13 - What has been your strategy for building relationships (and landing interviews) with key players within the crypto sphere?
Lark - Being perisistent. Some big names can take a lot of work to get on the channel, but it is always worth it.
14 - How do you deal with the trolls/haters in the comments section?
Lark - I ban, liberally, and with no remorse.
15 - What goals do you have for your content in the future?
Lark - Keep growing and providing value for my community.
16 - What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Lark - Not sure.
17 - Where is your go-to for crypto news and information?
Lark - Crypto Twitter.
18 - Where do you get your awesome shirts from?
Lark - A few different designers, but some of the best ones are from a company called Coton Doux.
19 - You get to have dinner with three people, living or dead. Who are you eating with?
Lark - Elon Musk, Peter the Great, and Tony Robbins.
20 - What is one thing very few people know about you?
Lark - I can speak Russian.
