Greetings!! My name is Reisha Fil, from Northern Cebu, Philippines. I have just graduated from Nursing school and took the licensure examination. Graduating freed up space for me to allocate time to my hobbies and other activities. Most of the time, I enjoy staying at home doing random activities. However, I also have an adventurous and curious side that likes the outdoors and trying new things.
I currently live in the city, but I was born and raised in the provincial area. I am always keen on exploring both the city and the province to understand its contrast. In a way, going back and forth has expanded my perspective.
I highly value an exchange of thoughts, there is something so human in sharing experiences. I like recommending spots to visit, activities to try, movies to watch, or songs to listen to; the best part is I get to listen to others and their experiences as well, and with that, the possibilities of plans to make are endless.
My Life is Just Beach
Ken on Greta Gerwig’s Barbie said, “My job is just beach” and it is a perfect description of my life. I grew up visiting the beach every weekend and I would not change that aspect of how I was raised, not even the sunburns. My connection with beaches is amplified by the nostalgia of my childhood. I live on an island amongst many islands and the best thing to do- in my opinion, is just a beach.
With beaches being one of the best and most popular tourist attractions around my area, there are plenty of great activities to do on the beaches: freediving, surfing, boating- I do not do any of those, but that is beside the point. I do not mind the absence of adrenaline when I am by the seaside; for me, I do not have to do anything by the beach but to be by the beach. I just sit back, relax, and just beach.
Passenger Princess
My partner and I travel across the island by motorcycle; if we have a weekend to ourselves, we drive around the island. He plans the trip, cuts through the traffic, and gets us where we intend to be, and like a passenger princess, I just come with (and take pictures too).
The longest ride we have ever had was about 120km from Cebu City to Daanbantayan north of Cebu. It took us maybe five hours because we took frequent breaks to rest and admire the places we stopped by.
Check these views out from some stops during our rides. Sometimes, it is about the journey and not the destination.
My crafty short-term hobbies
I see crafts as my creative outlet and every time I finish a project, I feel gratified because I made it and put effort into it. Most of all, I just appreciate making or following a process knowing that regardless of the outcome, it was made by me.
Out of everything I have taught myself, painting has got to be the most recurrent. I have not mastered it, but it is something I truly enjoy and honestly, I like that it is not something I have mastered because I do not need to judge if it is good or bad, and it reassures me that there is no pressure in the outcome.
Here are some of my recent ones. I had extra paint from a recent activity and I used to paint quick flowers. Very easy and simple, yet so beautiful.
My partner likes to give me flowers and I like to preserve them. I press them on books or dehydrate them and I like to display them in frames. I started doing this because I am a very sentimental person and I feel that it is such a shame to throw away the flowers when they wilt.
One more reason why I love crafts: they can be functional. I recently taught myself how to crochet by watching tutorial videos. It is so rewarding to use something and say to myself that I made it.
Admittedly, crocheting is very time-consuming and I am not a very patient person, but instead of seeing it as something that slows me down, I see it as an activity that teaches me to do things at my own pace and take my time.
Let me take your picture
Common phrase I like saying. Because I value sentiment, I got a mini instant camera that I take with me wherever. I like taking pictures of moments that I like to remember.
What I love about the type of pictures that I take is that there is no structure, there are no rules, just freedom. I do not bother myself too much on the outcome, I just feel the value of the moment and I click away.
My Introduction to Hive
My aunt @naymhapz recommended blogging as a way to channel that enjoyment of sharing experiences, and for months I have seen her take pictures and make inquiries to know more about the family activities we go to. I think it is a very informative process and she gave me a brief introduction about the Hive and encouraged me to try and join it. After seeing her enjoy blogging for quite some time, I feel that this introduction blog is long overdue.
Though I have much to learn about it, I know that it is a virtual platform for something that I enjoy daily and an opportunity for me to do.
I think that sharing life experiences with like-minded individuals can improve the quality of life and as for myself, I hope it is something that I can learn from and that I can also be part of someone else’s learning experience.
Overall, I’m just enjoying this phase of my life where I am completely free of academic pressure; it’s like baggage that I finally put down. Although at first, there is a little bit of guilt from being stagnant, I’ve learned to be grateful for this time to catch up on what I feel like I’ve missed in life and it is a delight to document it here.
Great things ahead!
