Greetings, Steemit!
I am new to the community and have personal goals I would like to accomplish here that I hope will help myself and others.
Growing up, my mind was shaped by the heavy influence of my parent's choice religion, as were most people's. I was raised in something called, "The Conservative Holiness Movement." This cult is an offshoot of mainstream Christianity, specifically through Methodism. Through careful consideration, its founders developed theological applications and subsequent rules for its followers that cause harm for adherents.
While I know my experience is one of many, I would like to draw attention to this particular sect of Christianity and the unique cognitive issues it continues to create. These problems include illogical feelings of shame, unrealistic demands of perfection, isolation from society, and the installment of those ideals in young children often through verbal fear and physical punishment.
The Conservative Holiness organization operates in many states of America and has a large international voice as well. It is my hope that some members seeking to leave it or other cults with similar issues, will find my journey helpful. "Religious Trauma Syndrome" is being recognized in this country and I am grateful to have discovered a platform through steemit where I can sort through some of my personal damage with the intention of helping the collective.
Please follow me and I will follow you. I will not seek to bash religion in my blog but simply share my personal thoughts based off of my experiences in hopes of growing my writing ability and my new mind at the same time.
Thank you,
Charity Zechman
