While I'm not Richie Cunningham, and my wife's name is not Oprah, I would like to say hey to the Steemit community!
If you know where that quote came from, you've just learned the first thing about me. I love to quote movies, especially comedies.
My name is Jay, and I go by HelpfulAdvisor. How that came to be is a bit of a long, but not entirely boring, story. If you'd like to read more about that, you can check it out on my blog on Medium.
Why Steemit?
I was attracted to Steemit after doing some research on crypto currencies, and services that are associated with these currencies. I found Steemit to be one of the first practical applications around a secure blockchain technology that results in something tangible that people can use.
And, because I love to write, I thought Steemit was a perfect match for me to learn more about crypto currencies, while also using an actual service built around the same technologies that power the crypto currencies themselves.
So, my blog HelpfulAdvisor is my never-ending attempt to bring value to the world in some way by sharing with folks my lessons learned on a journey to making a six figure income.
I wanted to share my lessons learned as I have no college degree, and after many years of working hard, I've reached a milestone goal for myself: earning a 6-figure income.
That's not my only goal, but it was a big one I set for myself a long time ago, and I thought that if I shared some of the mistakes and lessons I've learned along the way, it might shorten someone else's journey just a little bit.
Plus, I'm a big fan and advocate of the 4-Hour Workweek philosophy. I'm not there yet, but I do embrace finding ways to be able to increase my productivity while allowing me to have to work less, and enjoy more of a quality life. (Translation: Find ways to lie on the beach while money still magically comes to the bank account)
And while my blog over at Medium is meant to help others achieve a higher level of career and financial success, I wanted to join Steemit as a way to chronicle my next journey: that of becoming a crypto currency investor.
Sure, many others have gone before me, and some have made their mark, and others maybe not so much. But, I intend to succeed in some way in the crypto market, and I want to share my experiences with anyone who's interested so that maybe I can help others that want the same for themselves.
Rising To A New Challenge With Steemit
It might sound lofty, but I'd like to one day be a full time writer and investor. If I'm going to do that, I'll need to at least double my current income in order for me to feel comfortable doing that.
So, there lies the challenge. Not just "succeed" at investing crypto, but combine that with my love for writing and see if I can create a situation where I can safely choose this path over my current career.
Are you with me? I hope so, it's always more fun to have friends along when it comes to an exciting journey!
Who Am I, Really, And Where Do I See Myself in Five Years?
As for me as a person, well, I'm a life long technologist and senior IT professional. I'm happily married with three grown kids and I live in Texas.
I love learning new things every day, whether it's about technology, or writing, or history, or anything else that creates curiosity for me.
I've been told I've got a big heart, but also someone that you wouldn't want to cross. I like to give and not just take, and I appreciate others who feel the same way.
I'm compassionate, but also believe in our individual abilities to create success (or failure) in our own lives. Therefore, I'm accountable to myself and to others that count on me, and I always enjoy being part of a team.
While some might think I'm an extrovert, I prefer a more introverted lifestyle. I have a cousin who's just like me and he once said that we're, "introverts by nature, extroverts by profession". And I would say that sums me up.
I'm not unhappy around people by any means. However, if I had a choice of staying home and relaxing, watching some TV with my wife, or watching a movie I've been waiting to see over going out to a crowded bar, restaurant, or movie theater... I'm going to stay home. It's what I do.
Most people that know me will call me witty, and even sarcastic. I wear the sarcastic thing like a badge of honor. I love to make jokes, mostly because I really get a thrill out of making people laugh.
Laughing is like eating... when the joke is good or the food is good, there's no hiding that others are enjoying it. So, I try t make others laugh for purely selfish reasons, but I think everyone wins when I accomplish my devious plot to draw a chuckle out of someone.
I realize that one post is not going to fill you in on everything that I am. If you're interested in finding out more, I tend to share myself through my writing. So, if you'd like to know more, you can follow me here, or check me out on Medium.
And, If You're a Glutton For Punishment (That Usually Costs Extra)
If you didn't get enough of me from all that you just read (who could blame you?), and you'd like to say hi, drop me a note at jay@helpfuladvisor.com. I'd love to hear from you, but to be completely transparent, if you email me spam or solicitations of any kind, it's going to get deleted. I only like to talk to real people who have real things to say.
As I wouldn't spam you, please don't spam me, ok? Cool.
Thanks for reading, and I'm really looking forward to learning more about you and the ins and outs of Steemit, Steem, Steempower, and any other Steem* there is, along with how this all fits in the grand crypto currency scheme of things.
Here's to your success in all things, and thanks for letting me come hang with you all.
To Your Success,
-Jay
