Hi, I'm Jahnel!!
I'm a Filipino-American born in Oregon. My family, friends and the outdoors make me happy and I can't seem to stay put for too long..
After 3 years living in San Francisco, my best friend and I quit our jobs in 2015 to travel for as long as we could. We tried to start our own travel blog, twoexcited.com and well, take a look to see how that's [not] going 🤣.
We spent 2 month U.S. road tripping around the states (not NEARLY enough time), 5 months chicken bussing through Central America and 3 months in Colombia before my sister got pregnant so I moved back to Oregon.
My nephew is super cute and all, but I still had the adventure/travel bug in me and moved to Colorado shortly after with plans to learn to ski for ONE winter. I ended up meeting a boy and staying there for 3 years. 😬
We're so grateful to both have close relationships with our families so when the pandemic hit, we started parent-hopping and are now using this time to make power pivots in our lives. We spent 5 months with my family in Oregon before moving to Minnesota in October (just in time to enjoy that cold winter 😉). Dakota is now completing his Bachelors in Nursing and I have been coding my butt off every night.
I'M NOT A BLOGGER, WHY AM I ON HIVE/PEAKD?
I became a fan of decentralization after a fun time with with $GME.. more on that later 🤣 As I briefly mentioned, I am currently freshening up on my HTML, CSS and JavaScript skills. I'm trying to not get stuck in tutorial hell by finding mini projects and challenges for myself.
So when my Chainlink-obsessed friend told me about the Chainlink Hackathon, I joined right away. Confused AF as to what to create, I started researching dApps for inspiration. I have a marketing background so I saw something that said "social media", and a trip down rabbit hole lane was immediately initiated.
Since I love traveling [aka excuse to add more travel photos]
and had been looking into creating my own travel app because I couldn't find any good ones via centralized searching, when I came across the @travelfeed, @haveyoubeenhere and @pinmapple communities... mind blown 🤯. I love what these guys are doing and I'm so excited to be a part of it. I'm more of a wannabe developer than a wannabe blogger so we'll see where I end up (hint hint @martibis @jpphotography 🤗).
I've picked up a few other hobbies, I'll get into below and I'm hoping that by posting my progress to PeakD will help keep me accountable to keep going with them 🙏🏼
QUARANTINE HOBBIES
ECSTATIC is an understatement when I figured out staying home was considered to the RESPONSIBLE thing to do 🤣. I was finally able to focus my time and energy on things that have been on my "list".
Hula Hooping
I picked up my first hula hoop sometime in April 2020, and I could not keep it up for more than a half rotation! People who hula hoop make it look so easy (it's def not)!! I went from 1 Walmart hula hoop to now I think I have 5 hula hoops. Did you know that you need different weights, sizes, and types depending on what you're trying to do?! There's even a traveling one, seen here that I took to Turks & Caicos on vacation last month!
If you're lucky, maybe I'll post more about my hoop journey and create a little video for y'all if I get the courage!
Plants
I also got my first (non-air) plant during quarantine.
Quarantine got me staring at them ALL DAMN DAY trying so hard not to over water them that I went from 1 to 20 in like a week. I propagated some succulents for the first time too. Anyone else?! I can now say I have a green thumb and I love trying (I'm not always successful 😢) to save sick plants.
Skin-care
I'm getting older so society is telling me I need to start thinking about preventing my wrinkles. I went from never washing my face except for the shower my whole life, please don't judge 😬 to now having a 6 different serums, oils and creams added to my morning AND nightly routine. I think it's HILARIOUS but my skin seems to thank me.
Investing/Crypto
This has been something I've been wanting to do for a long long time. I finally downloaded Robinhood and put some money in to play with. There was not much excitement for the first 6 months until I heard about $GME. Long story short, I lost money in $GME and got it all back with Dogecoin 🤣
After RH blocked trading in the midst of the frenzy, I immediately started to understand the need for decentralized EVERYTHING. So you know it .. a trip down the blockchain rabbit hole, I came!
AM I DOING THIS RIGHT?!
Welp, overall, I'm excited to be here. I'm looking forward to learning more about this community and how it all works. So far it's been great but honestly confusing... i.e. delegators, witnesses, etc. say wha..?! hahaha
I'd love for any of you to share resources on how I can learn more bout the Hive Community and suggestions on accounts (is that what you call them?!) to follow and communities to join based on my mini-obsessions! THANK YOU!!!
