Capitolo uno: Mi presento [ITA]
Buongiorno a tutti steemers. Mi chiamo Mario Ammirato, ho 23 anni e vivo in una città provinciale della Calabria, Cosenza. Amo molto la mia terra, la mia fantastica regione, che ha da offrire, oltre all'immensa cordialità ed accoglienza della maggior parte degli abitanti, molti paesaggi mozzafiato. Nella mia breve vita, ho cercato di visitare più posti possibili in Calabria, perché ho sempre pensato che fosse fondamentale conoscere bene le proprie origini. Nelle varie "escursioni", ho però notato qualcosa che purtroppo è alla luce del giorno, sotto gli occhi di tutti: le potenzialità per essere una delle regioni con più turismo in Italia e nel Mondo, non vengono sfruttate. Non possono essere sfruttate. A causa del male maggiore che affligge il Bel Paese: la mafia. Questa MALATTIA è purtroppo ormai radicata in tutta Italia ed in tutto il mondo, a maggior ragione nell'italia meridionale. Commercianti costretti a pagare il cosiddetto pizzo per poter continuare a tenere le loro attività aperte, paesaggi di immensa bellezza deturpati dai rifiuti che la mafia scarica abusivamente, l'omertà che riecheggia nelle forze dell'ordine ed in coloro che dovrebbero salvaguardare i cittadini, ed infine la paura, che affligge gran parte dei calabresi. Ricordo come se fosse ieri una scritta letta all'età di 15 anni, mentre ero in gita in sila.. recitava:

Quella semplice scritta smosse in me sentimenti di rabbia, angoscia e tristezza. Non solo in calabria i bei paesaggi non sono valorizzati, sono spesso deturpati. Quel giorno rimasi sentitamente toccato, e pensai che era tutto merito di quella protesta che lessi scritta su un muro. Da lì iniziai a pensare che si smuovono molti sentimenti con le parole ed il mio obbiettivo divenne uno ed uno solo: diventare un giornalista.

Chapter one: I'm present [ENG]
Good morning to all steemers. My name is Mario Ammirato, I'm 23 and live in a provincial town of Calabria, Cosenza. I love my land, my fantastic region, which has to offer, besides the immense cordiality and warmth of most inhabitants, many breathtaking landscapes. In my short life, I tried to visit as many places as possible in Calabria, because I always thought it was essential to know their origins well. In the various "excursions", however, I noticed something that unfortunately is in the light of day, in the eyes of all: the potential for being one of the most tourism regions in Italy and in the World are not exploited. They can not be exploited. Because of the greater evil that afflicts the Beloved Country: the Mafia. Unfortunately, this disorder is rooted all over Italy and all over the world, especially in southern Italy. Merchants forced to pay the so-called lace in order to continue to keep their open businesses, landscapes of immense beauty deteriorated by the waste that the mafia abuses abusively, the eagerness that echoes in the police and those who should safeguard the citizens, and And finally the fear, which afflicts much of the Calabrian. I remember it as if it was a written reading yesterday at the age of 15 while I was on the verge of hunting .. recited:

That simple writing smelled in me feelings of anger, anguish and sadness. Not only in Calabria, beautiful landscapes are not valued, they are often disrupted. That day I was feeling touched, and I thought it was all worthy of that protest I wrote on a wall. From there I began to think that many feelings with the words came down and my goal became one and only one: to become a journalist.
Capitolo due: La rinuncia [ITA]
Finita la scuola, il mio obbiettivo non era cambiato, volevo a tutti i costi poter fare qualcosa per esprimere le mie idee sperando che potessero trovare approvazione nel resto degli altri ragazzi come me, al fine di proteggere questa fantastica terra che Dio ci ha donato. Il mio sogno di diventare giornalista si infranse in men che non si dica, andai all'università ma dovetti abbandonare.. Non avevo la possibilità economica per continuare i miei studi, i miei genitori non potevano aiutarmi economicamente, e mi rassegnai. Inizia a pensare che non ne ero in grado, cosi che la pillola da ingerire fosse meno amara. Il mio obbiettivo, però, non era cambiato. Volevo ancora proteggere la mia terra da chi ne abusa; non avrei potuto farlo scrivendo e denunciando nei miei articoli questi mafiosi, ma ciò non significa che non avrei potuto farlo affatto. Decisi allora di arruolarmi nell'esercito, pronto a dare il 200% di me stesso, nella lotta alle ingiustizie ed alla mafia.
Chapter two: Rinunciation [ENG]
After school, my goal had not changed, I wanted at all costs to do something to express my ideas hoping that they could find approval in the rest of the other guys like me in order to protect this fantastic land God has given us. My dream of becoming a journalist broke into people who did not say, went to college but I had to leave. I did not have the economic opportunity to continue my studies, my parents could not help me economically, and I resigned. He begins to think that I was not able, so that the ingested pill was less bitter. My goal, however, had not changed. I still wanted to protect my land from those who abuse her; I could not do it by writing and denouncing these mafiosi in my articles, but that does not mean I could not do it at all. I then decided to enlist in the army, ready to give 200% of myself, in the fight against injustice and the mafia
Capitolo tre: L'esercito, tra valori e corruzione [ITA]
Era il 22 settembre 2014, quando presi il pullman da Cosenza diretto a Verona. Ce l'avevo fatta. Stavo veramente partendo per arruolarmi. Mi guardavo intorno durante il tragitto, sarei andato al nord, lontano da casa mia, ma lo facevo volentieri. Ne ero felice ed orgoglioso, il mio "Piano B" stava andando in porto. Affrontai il viaggio con un ragazzo di Crotone che conobbi alle visite mediche a Palermo, in lui vedevo la mia stessa rabbia, la stessa voglia di cambiare le cose. Arrivati a Verona, non nascondo che fu un trauma! Eravamo stati assegnati al centro di addestramento reclute più duro d'Italia, e ce ne accorgemmo subito. Il primo giorno di questa mia avventura iniziò il 23 settembre alle 8 di mattina; ci inquadrarono, ci spiegarono quello che stavamo per affrontare e ci chiesero se eravamo pronti, se era veramente ciò che volevamo. Furono pochi i ragazzo che decisero di rinunciare prima ancora di iniziare, evidentemente non erano lì per concludere qualcosa, ma semplicemente alla ricerca de tanto ambito "posto fisso". Quel 23 settembre si concluse a mezzanotte, dopo averci tenuti fermi, in piedi nel piazzale della compagnia, per oltre 4 ore. Avevo le gambe a pezzi, ero stanco ed annoiato, ma mai, neanche per un secondo, mi sfiorò l'idea di rinunciare. Trascorsi i tre mesi più belli della mia vita nell'85º RAV Verona. Giurai fedeltà alla Repubblica Italiana. Conobbi ragazzi col mio stesso obbiettivo, diventammo come fratelli; dovevamo esserlo per affrontare le durissime giornate in quel centro addestramento. Poi andai a Spoleto per il modulo K (Kombact) e la storia non cambiò: esercizi fisici durissimi, portati allo stremo psicologicamente, ma tutti pronti a sacrificarsi per i propri commilitoni. Terminai l'anno da volontario a Roma.
Chapter three: The army, between values and corruption [ENG]
It was September 22, 2014 when I took the bus from Cosenza to Verona. I had done it. I was really starting to enlist. I looked around on the way, I would go north, away from my house, but I did. I was happy and proud of it, my "Plan B" was going to port. I took a trip with a Crotone boy I met with medical visits to Palermo, in him I saw my very anger, the same desire to change things. When I arrived in Verona, I did not conceal it was a trauma! We were assigned to the hardest recruiting training center in Italy, and we immediately noticed. The first day of my adventure began on September 23 at 8am; They framed us, they explained what we were about to face and asked if we were ready, if it was really what we wanted. There were a few guys who decided to give up before they even started, obviously they were not there to conclude something, but simply looking for such a "fixed place". That September 23 ended at midnight, after holding us standing, standing in the yard of the company for over 4 hours. I had my legs broken, I was tired and bored, but never, for a second, I was touched by the idea of giving up. I spent the best three months of my life in the 83rd RAV Verona. I swear loyalty to the Italian Republic. I met children with my own goal, we became like brothers; We had to be doing it for the tough days in that training center. Then I went to Spoleto for the K module (Kombact) and history did not change: harsh physical exercises, carried to psychological expulsion, but all ready to sacrifice for their own compatriots. I ended my volunteer year in Rome.
Capitolo quattro: Continuare a sperare o arrendersi di nuovo? [ITA]
Ad oggi, sono di nuovo qui, nella mia tanto amata Calabria, senza però aver concluso niente. Un anno lontano da casa che potrebbe servirmi per il mio futuro, che mi ha formato e mi ha dato l'opportunità di conoscere persone provenienti da tutta Italia, con in testa una cosa sola: lottare per cambiare le cose. Gli ultimi tre concorsi a cui ho partecipato, però, sono stati annullati. I motivi? Ve li elenco qui, oggi:
Polizia Penitenziaria 2014: Concorso annullato per illeciti, scoperte diverse famiglie mafiose della Campania che hanno divulgato le risposte dei quiz a determinati ragazzi, anch'essi campani.
Polizia di Stato 2015: Concorso annullato per illeciti, i vincitori di concorso hanno risposto esattamente a 80 domande su 80, prendendo il massimo. Niente di strano, se non fosse che non venne pubblicata alcuna banca dati e che il 95% dei vincitori sono della stessa provincia della casa editrice che produce i quiz (Caserta)
Polizia Penitenziaria 2017: Sotto inchiesta, giorni prima dei quiz un ragazzo ha pubblicato l'algoritmo delle risposte su vari forum di discussione del concorso.
Queste tre esperienze mi hanno portato a riflettere molto sul mio futuro, se veramente quello che voglio è servire uno Stato che permette tutto ciò. Non sono assolutamente pentito di aver giurato fedeltà alla Repubblica Italiana. Ancora dentro me c'è la speranza che quel giuramento servirà per servire uno Stato pulito, che combatte al mio fianco, e non contro di me. So che magari è una mera utopia, ma già una volta sono stato costretto ad abbandonare il mio sogno, non vorrei dover essere costretto a rifarlo, perché abbandonerei la mia unica possibilità di fare giustizia in un Paese inondato da illeciti e criminali.
Questa è la mia presentazione, mancato giornalista, convinto sognatore. Vorrei concludere con un pensiero sulla mia amata Calabria:
Potrò un giorno dover andare molto lontano, ma avrò sempre la consapevolezza di non essere solo, perché tu sarai sempre A TRE PASSI DA ME.
Chapter four: Continue to hope or give up again?
To this day, I am here again, in my beloved Calabria, but I have not done anything. A year away from home that could serve me for my future, which has formed me and gave me the opportunity to meet people from all over Italy, with one thing in mind: struggling to change things. The last three competitions to which I participated, however, were canceled. The reasons? You list them today, today:
Penitentiary Police 2014: Antitrust Complaint for Discrimination, Discovered Campaign Mafia Families Discovering Quiz Responses to Certain Boys, also Campanians.
State Police 2015: Antitrust Complaint Competition, contest winners answered exactly 80 questions on 80, taking the most out of it. Nothing strange, if it was not that no database was published and that 95% of the winners are in the same province as the publishing house producing quizzes (Caserta)
Penitentiary Police 2017: Under investigation, a few days before the quiz a boy published the algorithm of the answers on various contest forums.
These three experiences have led me to think a lot about my future, if I really want to serve a state that allows it all. I am absolutely sorry to have sworn allegiance to the Italian Republic. Still inside me there is hope that that oath will serve to serve a clean state that fights at my side, not against me. I know maybe it's a mere utopia, but once I've been forced to abandon my dream, I do not want to have to be forced to do it again, because I would abandon my only chance of doing justice in a country flooded with illicit and criminals.
This is my presentation, missing journalist, convinced dreamer. I would like to conclude with a thought on my beloved Calabria:
One day I will have to go very far, but I will always be aware that I am not alone, because you will always be THREE STEPS TO ME.
