The Sermon on the Mount was an introduction to the Kingdom of God, the empire or dominion of the divine perfections, and in this sermon, Jesus taught to his disciples the spiritual concept of Beatitude, and exposed the basic principles of the new faith to his disciples, such as the unconditional love (Agape): "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you" Luke 6:27-28.
This teaching about love for example at first sight seems a contradiction, but it must be understood that many of the teachings of Jesus cannot be interpreted with the natural reason but with the gift of knowledge or understanding, that is why Jesus told to his listeners many times that they listened without hearing and looked without seeing. The love in the Christian faith is the love (Agape) projected towards the whole creation of God. The Kingdom of God appears to us as a mystery, as a hidden treasure that has to be revealed.
Beatitude is one of the deepest concepts of the Sermon on the Mount, beatitude does not respond to the desire for happiness as the moral virtue, but to the desire for the good. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus explained to us that depending on the path we choose we will find blessing or curse.
Beatitude surrounds us, constitutes us, but at the same time it is impossible to reach, beatitude tells us: "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" Matthew 5:48, "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful" Luke 6:36, "Be holy, because I am holy" 1 Peter 1:16.
Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount summarized and exposed the ethical foundations of the Kingdom of Heaven, and thus began his explanation, and while teaching, Jesus also imparted his mercy: "He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases" Luke 6:17-18.
