Hello Steemit,
I'm an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering at Syracuse University. I teach core courses in Chemical Engineering to sophomore students, and a course on Energy Production and Storage to seniors and graduate students. But teaching is only about 20% of what I do. ..
I lead a research lab that is currently developing new plastics and composite materials that can be used to enhance ways that we generate and store energy. As examples, we've made new coatings for solar cells, new electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries, as well as better filtration systems for oil-spill clean up. I manage 4 PhD, 3 master, 2 undergrad, and 2 high school students. We have a very busy lab!
Personally, I've been blessed with a wonderful, supportive wife and 3 beautiful children. When I'm not busy managing my research, or helping students, I'm at home playing with my kids. I've lived in New York for over 13 years now, but am originally from Toronto, Canada.
I had read about Bitcoin a few years ago when it was around $200, but didn't think much about it until recently when a family friend mentioned it as an investment opportunity. I spent most of this summer learning as much as I could about everything there is about crypto-currencies, the block chain, mining, as well as all different altcoins.
I'm here on Steemit to support its effort to create a decentralize social media platform, and also provide everyone with new updates from my lab, my teaching, my experiences with the crypto-sphere, as well as my opinions on current issues in science and technology.
I welcome everyone to visit my research lab website: http://www.hoseingroup.org
Thanks in advance to all for reading this introduction!
