You must like the investment
You must understand the investment
You must be able to make a long-term commitment to the investment
The investment must meet your CASH FLOW expectations
If an investment does not meet all of those criteria you should not put any money into it.
Now to address the $50,000 investment options. The answer is simple. If you have less than $50,000 you are still broke and you should only be investing in yourself to produce more income. I understand that this is unorthodox and that $50,000 seems like a lot of money, but the truth is, it’s not. This would not even last you a year if you lost your income. $50,000 can get used up a lot faster than you realize.
Here is what you should invest in at the $50,000 or less level:
Your own knowledge. Attend courses, read books, and gain knowledge on how to create more income. If you have less than $50,000 it is because you have an income problem.
Your own business or sales career. Everyone sells. Everyone. The only difference is some people realize it and get paid. Others deny it and don’t get paid. You must know how to sell. Invest in marketing, promoting yourself, and selling to increase income.
Coaching. If you have less than $50,000 saved (this will sound harsh) I believe you are committing financial treason against yourself, your family, and your community. When I had less than $50,000 saved, I believed I was committing treason. You need a coach because your thoughts, feelings, and actions are creating the results you have. The result you have is that you are at risk financially. You need accountability & perspective from someone who has been where you need to go.
Save it. If you have maxed out the above 3 options, just save it. Do not put it into an IRA or 401k. Do not put it into real estate (best case scenario you lock up the $50k in a down payment to make $600-$700/mo to manage a property. Your still broke, now you just have an underpaid landlord job). Just accumulate cash.
