You're totally right. Steemit does have the capacity to be an independent haven for this type of journalism.
I propose the following:
There should be a tag that only authorised users can use, like #realjournalism.
Users can only gain authorisation to use that tag by showing a body of work elsewhere or submitting an article that is deemed to be high enough quality by an editor.
Why?
- Only by creating such a high quality channel would Steemit gain credibility as a haven for serious journalists.
- A lot of them won't want to put their work into a pool of blog quality articles (no offence intended... I count myself amongst the blog quality writers, if I'm lucky).
- A separate site (The Steemit Review or something catchy) could be created based on the hashtag in a more 'news site' style that would make those articles more consumable for non Steemers (it would also be a gateway to Steemit.com for the new readers of course).
