Sake is an alcoholic beverage from Japan.
Commonly it is referred to as rice wine. The brewing process however is like that of beer.

Beer or Wine
Wine is produced by fermenting sugars from fruits into alcohol.
Beer, on the other hand, is made by converting starch into sugar first and into alcohol thereafter.
Unlike beer, sake has alcohol content above 15%.
Hot or Cold
High grade sake is usually served cold in order to preserve aromas.
