Sometimes you just have to take breathtaking photos. On my way from Oita to Kumamoto on a roadtrip, it happened that clouds had just rolled out and the sun was settling in. Mt. Aso is worth a trip for anyone visiting Japan, although you'll need take a trip down to the southern island of Kyushu to get here.
Kyushu is a fantastic region of Japan that is underrated in my opinion. Everyone wants to enjoy the hustle of major metropolitan areas like Tokyo and Osaka, but no one wants to enjoy the chill life of the south, and I'm not talking about Okinawa, which is great, too.
This sightseeing area above was particularly important in Kumamoto prefecture; however, it was heavily damaged by the earthquakes in April 2016. It is known as the Road to Laputa and the city has no plans for recovery of the road because of the expense and dangers that it poses. Every time I pass this area on Milkroad, I'm reminded of the area that I won't be able to see again.
Here drone footage of the area (not my footage). It's very unfortunate, but it won't stop Kumamoto from recovering. The Aso area is prospering now and continues with its recovery efforts. If anyone is interested in more information on places to go and sites to see in Kyushu, drop a like.
