Next week, we are going back to Shizuoka Prefecture, where my parents live. My sons are very much looking forward to visiting their grandparents for the first time in a while, and every day they ask me, "How many more sleeps do I have to ?!".
These photos were taken when I returned my parents' home for the New Year's holiday in 2020. That was before the pandemic. The top photo is the city's famous "Jumbo Oriental Zodiac". I heard that this event started in 1995, but didn't know such an event existed when I lived there. It seems that 2021 was not held, probably due to COVID-19. I looked at the website and saw that a large tiger was produced for 2022. The zodiac sign for 2023 is rabbits. This one seems to be already open to the public, so I would love to go see it when I return home.
Shizuoka Prefecture is a beautiful place with beautiful seas and mountains. There is Mt. Fuji. But what I love the most is the scenery of tea fields spreading all around. Perhaps it is because I have memories of helping my family pick tea when I was a child. My mother's side of the family was a tea farmer, so I used to go there during the tea picking season to earn money. I remember I earned 50 yen for a basket.
When I return to Tokyo from my parents' home, I often buy tea leaves as souvenirs. The people to whom I give the souvenirs usually say later, "That tea was so delicious! ". So I guess Shizuoka's tea is delicious.

来週、私の実家に帰省します。息子たちは久しぶりの「ばあばんち」をとても楽しみにしていて、毎日毎日「あと何回寝たら？！」と聞いてきます。
写真は2020年の年末年始に帰省した時のものです。コロナ前ですね。一番上の写真は市の名物「ジャンボ干支」。毎年、藁で作った大きな干支が年末から3月にかけて公開されます。1995年に始まった催しだそうですが、住んでいた頃はこんなイベントがあるだなんて知りませんでした。2021年は開催がなかったようです。きっとコロナの影響でしょう。ホームページを見てみたら、2022年は大きな虎が制作されたことが書かれていました。2023年の干支はウサギ。こちらはもうお披露目されているようなので、帰省したらぜひ見に行きたいです。
実家のある静岡県は海も山もきれいなところです。富士山もあるし！でもなんと言っても私が一番好きなのは、一面に広がる茶畑の風景です。子どもの頃、よくお茶摘みの手伝いをした思い出があるからかな・・・母方の実家もお茶をやっていたので、お茶摘みの時期にはよく手伝いという名のお小遣い稼ぎにいっていました。たしか、魚籠一杯で50円とか、そんな感じだったと思いますw
実家から東京に戻るときにはお土産に茶葉を買うことが多いです。お土産を渡した相手は大抵後日「あのお茶、すごく美味しかった！」と言っきてくれるので、やはり静岡のお茶は美味しいのでしょう。
