Jesus discusses the usefulness of the Law of Moses and synthesizes the teachings of the kingdom of God in two commandments that summarize the love of Charity, the Ágape:
"Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind". This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself". All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 22: 34-40
This teaching is also in Mark 12:28-34 and Luke 10:25-28.
Jesus reduces the number of commandments: can the law be fulfilled in its entirety? Let's see an example:
"One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched. There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?" But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.
Then he asked them, "If one of you has a child or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?" And they had nothing to say." Luke 14:1-6
Jesus questions the fourth commandment in Exodus 20: "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work...Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holiday"
The love and the law are oppose, where the correct thing is? Jesus puts the good love before the law. This is why for Jesus the commandments are only two, the commandments of love.
