Hello SPiers, today we look into an amazing life hack that can help you save some money very easily. I have written this strategy before, maybe more than once and it is used as the saving method for the EDS Saturday Savers run by @shanibeer over at the @eddie-earner account.
I have personally done this myself twice so 2 years and from personal experience, it is the easiest way to save a smallish amount of money without feeling like you are saving.
Let's take a look at the 365-day Penny Challenge
You do this for 1 year, you start on day 1 by saving 1 penny. On day 2, you save 2 pennies, day 3, 3 pennies and then raise and repeat every day for the rest of the year until you get to the last day and you save 365 pennies.

The Saturday Savers run year to year with the next one starting January 2024, this could be something to remember and it would make a really cool New Years resolution to save some money.
I think most people in the Saturday Savers just add 7 numbers at once and do it weekly. I did this pre-HIVE, printed out the sheet, had a special saving box, marked off each day and saved up to buy a 1 oz gold coin both times.
The great thing about doing it with EDS is that shanibeer keeps records so if you take part, your saving journey is stored on the HIVE blockchain and you can come back to reminisce about trying to save 1 grand when you are a millionaire in 15-20 years.
Make it your own and set your own rules!
When I did mine, I added extra rules. In the UK, we have £2 coins and I made it a rule to save every £2 coin I got in change for that year. During the 1st year, plastic £5 notes were just released and I made it a rule to keep all the plastic £5 notes that I got. You can whatever you want.
- Round up numbers. For example, on days 1-10, save 10 cents. Days 11-20, save 20 cents, etc, etc. This way you can do it every 10 days
- Throw all your coinage change into your savings jar each day as long as it's the minimum amount for that day.
- Start with a bigger number. For example, start on day 1 with $1 and end on day 365 with $4.65. This would add an extra $365 to your pot for a total of $1033.
- Add in extra rules. These are limitless, you have seen the £2 coin and £5 plastic note rules I added. I've seen people make rules to add all the coins they win from slot machines, all the coins they have after a night at the bar, I even saw a guy who made a rule to pay in a few bucks every time he skipped working out. 😝

All you have to do is think of something you want than do it. I decided i'll save up in 2024 and buy myself a nice watch for starting the 2025 bullrun (pre bull run year, warmup gift for myself)
This is what I'll be saving for. It's a Swiss automatic GMT movement and I dont have anything with a white face yet plus it's 39mm so it'll fit nicely on my skinny wrist.🤣
I'll be saving with HBD and need about $1300 so I'll be adding some extra rules like maybe saving 50% of my monthly HBD interest into this to boost it but no question, I'll be rocking 2025 with this on my wrist.

Best thing to do is think of something you want like a treat for yourself, something that you want but would not buy. This could be anything, could be a $700 pair of shoes, a new laptop/PC, a lens for a camera, a coffee machine, or whatever.
And you dont have to spend it either. Most of the Saturday Savers save it. They set targets in crypto instead of fiat, so they aim to save EDS, SPI, HBD, HIVE, LEO and tons of others.
I just like to spend it because it feels like free money. It's pretty easy to make 1 transfer a week into a savings wallet and after 1 year, I'll get this watch.
