which is a sense of loss and grief. A sadness that my kid will not know the brilliant man my father was, and that some of his knowledge is, in fact, lost forever. Yes, the sauce I make with my kid will be wonderful and will make brilliant memories, but they will not be the sauces he would have made with my dad. It's grief, man.

Our cat is sick with something the vet says she's never seen before. We've spent $5000 already and she's telling us to expect to spend $10k more.

I suspect even enlistees don't understand the impact of being put into situations where they are going to choose a course of action that leads to more people dying. Where they're fixing a tank that will kill someone or keeping someone alive so he can be sent back to the front lines with a gun.
The whole of it is: we must stop making war. We must not agree to let our bodies and our minds be used for war. We must insist that others not use their bodies and minds for war. We must remind them that the U.S. DoD is a war machine, bent on global imperialism, and the wars that their bodies will be sacrificed for do nothing to make the world safer. They will kill and die for nothing nobler than profit.
I have sympathy for veterans. I regret that the force of capitalist propaganda convinced them to join the war machine.
