Yesterday, I was at the airport waiting to pick up a friend.
As I was sitting in the lobby waiting, I noticed 2 gentlemen interacting.
One was an open body languaged, loud, animated fellow.
The other one was sharp in their movements, softer tonality & less animated.
Watching both of them interact was fascinating.
'Why?'
Because they were socially rigid.
Both these 2 fellows were stuck in their ways.
Not a lick of dynamic movements from them.
The loud fellow was being loud.
The reserved one was rolling his eyes & taking his time to respond.
The amount of time it took for the reserved person to respond was now annoying the loud person.
Results?
The loud person was now rolling their eyes too.
If you listened to the conversation based off of words, everything would have seemed fine.
But if you analyzed the interaction with your eyes, then the story was very different.
The interaction was awkward as hell.
The entire vibe was not pleasant.
What is vibe?
Vibe is short for vibration.
Vibration is the language of the social dynamics world.
When interacting with another human, it's not your words that matter as much as the vibrations that you send off to the other.
'Well why not bucko!'
Because words communicate to the conscious mind.
Vibrations communicate to the subconscious mind.
The latter is what makes a social interaction pleasant or awkward.
The vibrations include:
Tonality
Body language
Eye contact
Attentiveness
All these lead to emotions in the other human.
The emotions that are generated by their subconscious mind will be analyzed by the conscious mind.
If the analysis reads pleasant, then they would like to see you again.
If not, they will dart the other way when they see you next time.
I say all that to say this:
Humans are different.
I'm not a big fan of using the terms introvert & extrovert because I am a firm believer that personality is dynamic based off of moods. But I will use it for the purpose of this lesson.
By factoring in that humans are different, you need to be able to switch your vibe at will.
'Does that mean be fake?'
Nope!
Keep the same authentic message.
But deliver it in a different way.
If you see someone is a tad bit reserved with their body language, dial it back.
If you see someone is darting their eyes, squint your eyes to come of as less threatening.
If you see someone is mainly a talker, listen more.
You get the point.
Match their vibrations so you 2 are on the same frequency.
'Can extroverts & introverts be best friends?'
Absolutely!
But it requires at least one of y'all to be dynamic.
Now that you have read this email, be that person who is dynamic.
Your mind dictates your vibe.
And your awareness dictates your mind.
Now that you are aware, do not make the same mistake as the 2 dummies from the airport.
