My eldest son had an extra day off from school yesterday, so we decided we could do something fun together (me, @mlvanderwaal and him). Although it is quite expensive, we figured it would be awesome to go to the most famous Dutch theme park: De Efteling.
The park and attractions are all based around a fairy tale theme. There's a "forest" with all the classic fairy tales, but also many different rollercoasters, park shows and funrides. They recently opened a new attraction called Symbolica, which was awesome. You ride around a "magical palace" in special carriages and you get to choose one of three different routes. Each route will offer a different adventure with interactive elements. The carriages are not bound to any tracks, so they appear to be floating over the floor and moving in semi-random directions. Quite a clever and amusing setup.

Ofcourse I also had to ride the dive coaster Baron 1898, my favorite! It plunges down a 37.5 m free fall into a "mineshaft" at a speed of 90 km/h. Adrenaline rush guaranteed!

In winter, they decorate everything with lights and snow, and put giant fire pits on the squares throughout the park. Makes it kind of extra special to walk around there. There's even a skating rink if you want to go ice skating! The weather happend to be awesome, but icy-cold, so we made good use of the firepits to warm up every now and then.
In our daily life, we spend so much time on our youngest son (he has 22q11 deletion syndrome), that I was glad we could finally give some much needed attention to the other.
We had such a great day!
