Every office worker dreams of the day they can write their resignation letter like they do a breakup letter with a toxic lover.
Sign, sealed, delivered and I’m - outta here!
You wish for the day your business is up to speed and you can finally call it for what it is - a business, not a some grand hobby that sounds like you have a life outside your day job.
All that hustle finally paid off, now YOU can call the shots.
But the truth of the matter is, you always could call the shots.
You are the architect of the journey you want to take. Image source
When we are working for our first job out of college, or even the corporate spot we found ourselves 7 years later, we have a lot of more control than we are led on to believe.
Surely, your 9am to 6 pm shift on weekdays are taken over by the company's mandate. But what about every other hour?
I’m sure your boss didn’t say you have to stare into the abyss and count cars while you wait for the bus. I'm sure your manager did not demand you to count the tiles on the train platform. And I'm pretty damn sure YouTube didn't put a contract on you to watch every video they put on your feed on the ride home.
We have a lot more say over what happens during our time outside of work.
If you wanted it, you could always look for a different job. One that satisfies your ambitions and makes the money you want. Like all things, you gotta plan it and DO it.
If you wanted it, you could start blogging on Steemit and make a side income to finance your other side projects.
If you wanted it, you could say no to all the networking invites and choose instead to spend your weekends to build your own business.
If you wanted it, you could go uninstall Facebook from your phone and go on a media diet.
If you wanted it, you could go on that trip to Penang this weekend. What's stopping you? You have the money. Who says you should only go on vacation once a year?
You don't need permission to do what you want with your life, the same way you would need permission from your manager to do a single task.
You steer the ship and you get the gold. You always could.
Treat your time as though you are the boss of your life (cause you are).
We are already self-employed. You are working for yourself. Every skill, every interaction, every book you read is all moving towards one thing - you.
