Walking into Bohemian Groove today I had steem on the brain.
I watched a few video's and thought oh yeah I got to get working on this ventilation or I'll never be able to blow glass here.
After a search on yellow book for an HVAC shop, I picked out a number and gave them a call.
I picked up this squirrel cage fan from a furnace or air handler it will do my one workstation just fine but I think it might be big enough to do 2. He told me that "it would move 700cfm at 1" static pressure"....so that would be alot more with less pressure.
I am going to go with 12" rigid metal ducting to connect all the components.
After spending an hour or more racking my brain on ventilation formulas at Mike Aurelius's ventilation primer I decided I was gonna go home and chill for a while and then plug all the formula's into excel. That was alot easier!
Next up will be building a box for the fan to mount in and putting together the 12" rigid metal ducting.
The above is a very very rough sketch of my ventilation system.
The 12" metal ducting runs from out the window about 12 ft where it will run into a box that holds the squirrel cage fan. After the squirrel cage fan it will go into an existing 16" duct that used to connect to a restaurant exhaust system. This giant duct goes 3 stories up into the air above the downtown building tops.
It was like it was meant to be, it was just there asking for me to hook up my pipe and start melting glass!
I have to buy some parts locally and order some parts off the internet, I can't ever get everything at one place....its the story of my life, I think I have everything, then I realize I have the wrong parts and have to order more.
I want to leave you with Blues Travelers "Hook"
