I haven't done a trip to the laundromat in years.
My wife hasn't either, so I sent this picture to her so she could share in the experience.
But we had some sleeping bags that the g-kids had puked in, they were too big for our washer at home, so I volunteered.
I have nothing against laundromats. They serve a function in our society, and once in a while, its an important function for my own personal life. Like today.
So it's not the visit today that made the time a waste.
It was just a job that had to get done to keep the wheels spinning on our home life. No big deal - I was happy to do it. The problem lay in what I chose to do with the 40 minutes or so that I had to use, invest, kill, or waste, waiting for the machines to do their magic.
There were a number of things I could have done with that time.
I could have met new people. I could have prayed. I could have read a book. I could have written a book.
In stead - I paged through FB. No - I take that back. I zoned out on FB.
Now I will grant you that FB can be a useful tool.
It can be used in a number of positive ways - meeting people, sharing ideas, learning new skills, and so on.
But what I did was just scroll through. Looking for nothing, reading little, just skimming - for about 30 minutes.
Those thirty minutes are now gone. I've traded them. And there is no calling them back, no do-overs, no Mulligans. They are swapped out, used up, and done. Gone forever.
And what did I get in return for my 30 minutes?
A few jpgs of cats doing cat stuff. A reminder that politics are bent. An amazing display of people being mean to people. A bit of brain numbing facebook surfing.
I'm sad about the exchange.
