Tonight I was sitting with the TV on in the background checking out some dtube videos. I had let the dogs have a roam in the Garden, and they came back in so I shut the door and settled. When i noticed my dog Max furiously licking at his back paw.
Before we continue meet Max.
Max lying down his brother Paddy behind him.
They were named after a TV show starring Peter Kay & Paddy McGuinness called Max and Paddy's Road to nowhere. Below is the theme tune.
Max is the dog all black with a white chest lying down. I often refer to him as Mr Max, behind him is his brother Paddy. (Yes I know they don't look a like they came from the same litter.)
They are Patterdale x Jack Russels and this year they will be 7.
Max constantly has ants in his pants, he is always on the go. He loves the sound of his own bark and his own cries. He has many names Mr Max, Grumps, Old man max. But I love them.
We also have a third dog called Phoenix who was a stray here in Bulgaria. We picked him up as a puppy and he has just turned 1. We called him phoenix because Paddy and Max TV show was a spin off from Phoenix Nights about a social club in Manchester.

The story continues.
So Max was licking his paw furiously so I went to see what was up with it, and I noticed it was bleeding. I took a closer look and one of the claws had clean broke off leaving the claw exposed.
What on earth do you do when this happens, I hear you wonder. Well wonder no more.
Applying pressure to the paw while I one handed googled the problem the solution was simple. Get some corn flour on the wound.
Yes according to this article put some cornflour (cornstarch) in a bowl and get the paw in there, this will immediately slow down the blood flow, and it worked!!

The good thing with Max is he does the leave it command very well and didnt touch his now floury paw all night which gave it a chance for the wound to clot and now start to heal.
So now I just need to keep it clean so some pet antiseptic spray will do the trick for that.
If your dog is a licker you may want to get a elizabethan collar from your vet or pet store, which will stop them licking the wound.
