Hello my fellow steemians. This post is quit different from my usual posts because the question used as the title has been in my thought for a great while now, so I decided to give it a discussion trial and I succeeded but before I proceed, let me say this. The topic is a reflection of some of us living in 3rd world countries. I'm a Nigerian and just recently the total population of the country was released by the National Population Commission (NPC); the total population stands at 198 Million people and I was amazed. Even though the result of the population released isn't the reason behind this thought, but It's sure a part of it.

In Nigeria, you can comfortably see a poor man with 5 to 8 children in one small room with his wife. He's not capable of taking care of them and yet he keeps giving birth to them all and it gives me a great concern especially when I see a poor woman with 4 children ( the eldest one maybe 5 years old, holding the immediate younger one's hand and then the mother holding the 3rd child's hand and still carrying one at her back). source What kind of life is that? When I behold such sight, I feel pity for the woman but at the same time, I get very angry with this thought in my mind; "they are not financially capable of taking care of this children yet they keep on giving birth, WHY?. With this question I decided to engage some persons in a conversation and this were their responses;

1st Person
He said "because the poor people have chance; inorder words the poor are less busy and that the rich are always busy with work so they don't always have time to be producing children every year or some every 8 months."
2nd Person
He said "that he was also concerned about the same issue that he had to engage in a conversation with a victim and the victim said that it was the husband who wouldn't let her to rest. She also lamented how she has given birth to 3 children in 3 years and she's even still pregnant for the fourth.
3rd Person
She said "Because they are not being opportune to be educated. They have this mindset that the rich is greater than them in terms of wealth so they want to be greater than then in terms of children given birth to; not knowing that gone are the days where children are counted amongst the wealth of a man or children being used for farming and works.sourceShe also said that nowadays many children are liabilities to those who don't have enough money to cater for them and that's where 30% of Nigeria problems come from. Most of the female children ends up becoming maids and nannies in some rich homes; while the male ones ends up in committing crimes e.g robbery, kidnapping, child abuse, cultism, agents used I'm politics etc.
4th & also the last Person
She said "They are not educated and they also believe that since they don't have money, they have children. And poor people especially in Africa are usually driven by consolation in sex and that at least one of the children must succeed in life. (What a mindset)
Let me just ask this;
Is being less busy enough reason to be giving birth to children without control?
The rich are even less busy sometimes yet they watch it!
An idle mind is the devil's workshop.
Having 6 kids in 6 years is not quit an achievement.
I will appreciate if this conversation continues here. Let us know what you think about this issue because it's becoming a great concern
